The Internet has also been used by companies such as Freight Zone Logistics and Echo Global Logistics to help match shipper loads with available carrier capacity in the trucking industry. 

The updated Mayor s air quality strategy addresses various measures which are proposed in the strategy and should be implemented in the near future [7]. This includes inter alia no-idling zones , more efficient freight movements, promotion of smarter travel, lane rental schemes for construction work in congested roads, supporting the uptake of low emission and electric vehicles, hybrid buses for public transport, renewal of the taxi fleet and enforced implementation of best practice guidance for construction sites.

A transport vehicle or freight container loaded at one loading facility with 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) or more of non-bulk packages containing material that is poisonous by inhalation (in Hazard Zone A or B), having the same proper shipping name and identification number, must be marked on each side and each end with the identification number for the material. 

The strategic and tactical model, for optimization of manufacturing and distribution networks, incorporates more than 100 customer zones or markets and dozens of product categories, manufactured in more than 250 production lines. Because of the diverse international nature of the problem, many international factors (such as domestic and international freights, transfer prices, taxes and duties) are considered. Some product categories have multi-stage production process and are processed in multiple echelons (Figure 8.3). Multiple productivity rates are considered for multi-product machines and products. The costs (facility overheads, production line fixed and variable costs and raw material consumption costs) are appropriately included in the optimization model. 

For the Tyrrhenian estuaries, which belong the the practically non-tidal Mediterranean Sea, it has been shown, that the overwhelming part of the fluvial heavy metal freight is sedimentated in the estuarine zone and consequently the fluvial heavy metal input to the Mediterranean Sea by Arno, Tiber and the smaller rivers remains insignificant[45]. An example from this study is shown in Figure 7. When present studies in progress for the Rhone and Ehro[46] estuaries have been completed, a relevant basis will exist to assess the relative significance of fluvial and aeolian input of ecotoxic metals into the western Mediterranean Sea.
