Another question is whether an endpoint reflecting the status of CMI should be included in any DIT protocol.1719 For the measurement of CMI, roundtable participants suggested that a validated DTH or T-cell responses to anti-CD3 be evaluated.38 The DTH assay is considered by the NTP as part of the Tier II test panel.3 Although reports indicate that the delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) response can be assessed in weanling rats.41 roundtable participants agreed that data are lacking as to whether cell-mediated immune (CMI) assessments in younger animals are feasible.38 Ultimately, the characterization of a validated endpoint which measures CMI, and the determination of whether such an endpoint should be an essential part of a DIT framework remain critical research needs. [Pg.358]

The conditions that lead to the formation of the first C-C bond during MTO, the mechanism for making ethylene and propylene from methanol, the critical catalyst parameters that are responsible for the wide variation in light alkene selectivities observed among different framework types and between fresh versus aged catalysts are some of the most intriguing questions of the catalysis field today [100-105]. [Pg.465]

Kuhn, in his book entitled The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, points out that in order for science to progress, two types of scientific activities are required [70]. He states, It is necessary for normal science to be to a large extent uncritical. If all scientists were critical of all parts of the framework in... [Pg.69]

The approximations of the superposition-type like equation (2.3.54), are used in those problems of theoreticals physics when other-kind expansions (e.g., in powers of a small parameter) cannot be employed. First of all, we mean physics of phase transitions and critical phenomena [4, 13-15] where there are no small parameters at all. Neglect of the higher correlation forms a(ml in (2.3.54) introduces into solution errors which cannot be, in fact, estimated within the framework of the method used. That is, accuracy of the superposition-like approximations could be obtained by a comparison with either simplest explicitly solvable models (like the Ising model in the theory of phase transitions) or with results of direct computer simulations. Note, first of all, several distinctive features of the superposition approximations. [Pg.253]

We should not close this section without touching upon some delicate technical point. A priori even for a discrete chain the critical chemical potential g s, defined as chemical potential per segment of an infinitely long chain, does not exist outside the -expansion. We already encountered this problem in Sect. 7.2, where we found that rC proportional to p, for d < 4 in naive perturbation theory suffers from infrared singularities. That problem has been considered in the field theoretic framework. The results, expressed in polymer language, show that the u-expansion is not invalidated, as long as we consider quantities which do not involve explicitly. Almost all the quantities of interest to us are of this type. Only in the equation of state relating gp(n) and cp(n) does an explicit contribution g n occur. But even... [Pg.222]

Experiments to further demonstrate the critical role of extraframework Al, or another polyvalent cation, have recently been carried out in our laboratory (19.20). A series of faujasite-type zeolites was prepared that had Alf concentrations between 21 and 54 per u.c. At the low end of the range, AHF was used to remove the framework Al, and an H-ZSM-20 zeolite with 42 Alf/u.c. was synthesized. ZSM-20 is an intergrowth of the cubic faujasite structure and the hexagonal variant know as Breck s structure six (BSS) (21). Thus, it is a faujasite-like material. The catalytic activities of these zeolites for hexane cracking are compared in Figure 5 (lower data set) with the activities of zeolites prepared by steaming or by treatment with SiClA (upper data set). The solid lines represent N(0) distributions. The samples without extraframework Al exhibited very modest activity, even though some of them had a favorable N(0) concentration. [Pg.12]
