Found object

When a variety of found objects such as buttons, cloth, and leather, which supply actual textures, are combined with painted or drawn textural effects on a two-dimensional ground, a collage is created. [Pg.141]

While regulatory authorities monitor research to ensure it is conducted in accordance with relevant laws and universal principles, stakeholders also seek reassurance that companies consider any ethical concerns that emerge. In particular, this is a matter of being respectful of the integrity of people participating in clinical trials, animal welfare, and culturally founded objections to certain types of research. This condition is an obvious motivator for the adoption of alternative methods, such as biosimulation. [Pg.486]

In 1986, Weiner et al. attempted to measure the loss of personal subjective recollections following ECT because these are most consistent with the nature of memory complaints by ECT patients themselves. The memory inventory in the study spanned several years prior to the shock treatment. The group found objective personal memory losses that lasted through the 6-month duration of the study. [Pg.236]

In some cases, however, we have retained trivial names (e.g., tri-thione, trithionium salt, isotrithione, and isotrithionium salt ) to which there are well-founded objections, but which are widely used and appear to cause no misunderstandings. [Pg.41]

Of great use in such investigations are artifacts or materials that come from a known location. It is in this area that archaeological chemistry has made an enormous contribution. There are many cases of such movement in exotic materials, often in the form of rare stones or minerals. There were no natural sources of turquoise in ancient Mexico, for example, but tins beautiful blue-green stone was imported from the present state of New Mexico and used in the costumes and jeweliy of the elite in Aztec Mexico.. Archaeological chemistry had documented the sources of turquoise in the southwestern and found objects from Mexico that clearly came from those quarries. This example is discussed in more detail in Chap. 8, Case Studies. [Pg.33]

The Union itself should not intervene too directly in the supply choice of its natural gas importers There is an emerging global market for natural gas and the EU currently has a relatively well-composed mix of imports. The increasing part of LNG in international natural gas trade will facilitate a further diversification, though at higher prices than previous long-term pipeline gas supplies. The well-founded objective of supply security should not lead to too heavy interventionism by member states of the EU in favor of its own incumbent companies. [Pg.17]

There do remain many well-founded objections to Porritt s thesis and evidence. Porritt was not able to control for industrialization and urban-... [Pg.92]

A restriction to accept a candy pellet as undamaged is to have its actual area be greater than a minimum area named MinArea. MinArea, a scalar quantity, is defined as the arithmetic mean minus one fourth times the standard deviation of the pellets (object s) area. Keep in mind that Area is a 1x8 row vector, where 8 is the number of found objects using bwconncomp command in Step 10. [Pg.112]

If the equivalent diameter (EqDiam) of the CFU object is found to be too large or too small, compared with the mean equivalent diameter of all found objects, then this CFU will be rejected (i.e., considered an artifact). IndexOfReject is the index of the matrix element returned by the find statement once the condition is met or fulfilled. StatReject=Stats(IndexOfReject) picks up only the rejected objects. [Pg.120]

This will seem clearer if I add that, in addition to the definition I have given above of the nature of my task, I have avoided three things from which anyone who wishes to avoid well-founded objections should always abstain. [Pg.327]
