Forward View

At the heart of creating a revenue advantage is the need for chemical companies to complement their asset-forward view (i.e., maximizing asset utilization) with a market-back view (i.e., maximizing margins based on what customers are willing to pay) of customers current, latent, and unmet needs. This requires the development of much more sophistication and understanding of the marketplace and... 

This review will then consider optical sensors, together with details of their basic principles, construction and operation. Relative advantages and disadvantages compared to electronic sensors will also be discussed. Current applications of anion sensors within the field will be described together with a forward view towards some possible future technologies and applications. 

In most of the electrophosphorescence based OLEDs the device quantum efficiencies drop rapidly with increasing current density and consequently with the brightness due to triplet-triplet annihilation at high current densities. WOLED based on phosphorescent material had a maximum forward viewing power efficiency of 26 + 3 Im at low luminosity, decreasing to 11 1 Im W-1 at 1000 cd m 2 (Kamata et al 2002, D Andrade et al 2004). 

Because the major application of OLEDs/PLEDs is for displays, the response of the human eye, described by the photopic luminosity function [15], must be taken into account. The photopic luminosity function is shown in Fig. 4.4. By using the photopic luminosity function, the radiance (watts/(sr m2)) is converted into the luminance (candela/m2, cd/m2 or lumen/(sr m2)). Therefore, photometry is used to measure the forward viewing luminance at the surface of an OLED/PLED. 

To measure the luminous intensity one must first choose a reference direction for the measurements, and one must then determine the solid angle to be used in the measurement. For display applications, the reference direction should be chosen as the forward viewing direction (along the direction perpendicular to the surface of the OLED/PLED). The luminous intensity is defined as the emission in cd/m2 from the emitting surface.

The main topics listed above are discussed in the following chapters, starting with wave packet propagation phenomena (Chap. 3), followed by photodissociation dynamics (Chap. 4), and ultrafast changes of molecular configuration (Chap. 5). The results are summarized in Sect. 6.1. The forward view (Sect. 6.2) indicates some prospects for future investigations of the ultrafast spectroscopy of small molecules and clusters.
