Forward planning

Firstly, we are not quite on a roll. In fact the rate of conversion has slowed to a trickle, partly because the funding keeps running out, partly because there has been a slight improvement in the fortunes of conventional dairy farming, partly because of (probably) short-term surpluses, particularly of milk, and partly because FMD has put a freeze on much forward planning and consultant activity.

Forward planning should provide the opportunity for a well thought out and efficient approach to product development, identifying requirements up front so as to avoid too much deliberation and backtracking along the way. It also should provide a visible communication tool. 

Information management is important to the management of obsolescence at stockpile sites, because it tracks the history of changes in the facilities and personnel over the lifetime of operations. Data of this sort can aid in identifying areas of potential obsolescence, facilitate forward planning, provide a permanent record that documents operations, and allow tracking of abnormal incidents. 

In addition, recent developments have allowed for real-time forecasting of weather conditions, giving contractors three-five day forecasts which can be site specific and allow for forward planning of weather dependent operations such as towage and positioning of caisson units, heavy lifts using floating cranes, etc. For further details see www.met-office.gov.uk and www.ecmwf int.

Never pull, always push the mower forward. Plan to mow across slopes since the feet will less likely get caught in the blade. Keep hands and feet clear of the blade housing and the discharge chute. 

The time scale for production to start affects forward planning of the existing production program. Machine availability or the need to purchase new equipment must be established. Forward planning of this form can result in a market edge over more technology-focused competitors. 

For the forward planning of resources we need a kind of recipe for every service package to be rendered, e.g. for a product, in which all necessary resources, such as purchased parts and outside services as well as all internally-produced parts and goods and services, e.g. design, are included.
