FORMULATIONS FOR WATERBORNE COATINGS BASED UPON VINYL AND ACRYLIC POLYMERS

VI FORMULATIONS FOR WATERBORNE COATINGS BASED UPON VINYL AND ACRYLIC POLYMERS [Pg.389]

The popularity of using acrylic resins in water based coatings is derived firom a numba of important attributes, some of which are  [Pg.389]

With increasing environmental and legislative pressures on the use of VOC s, aciylic dispersions are continuing to gain prominence in a number of important maiket sectors, namely  [Pg.389]

Emulsion polymers differ from solution types in that the polymer takes the form of a fine particle suspension (typically fix)m 0.03 to 0.3 pm) dispersed in water. There are two major classes of waterborne polymer colloids available, namely  [Pg.390]

The former class includes acrylic copolymers, vinyl acrylics and styrene butadiene, whilst the latter also embraces aqueous polyurethanes, polycarbonates and polyesters. Normally an acid or base functional resin is prepared in solution of a water soluble/miscible solvent, such as butyl glycol or butanol. Upon neutralisation, the resin is dispersed into the water phase and this is sometimes refered to as inversion . [Pg.390]
