Forging and Stamping

Nevertheless, the suitability for forging and stamping seems to be the outstanding characteristic of cupro-aluminiums, and should be made use of in the majority of cases. 

Aluminum alloys are produced in the usual flat-rolled sheet and plate, in tube, rod, wire, and bar forms, as well as castings, forgings, and stampings. 

Fabrication techniques include compaction and sintering, direct compression molding, hot stamping, forging, and hot plate or spin welding (13).

It is said tobea fact that the proof marks of both companies are forged and imitated, both in England and in Germany, and many cheap guns so stamped are exported to this country. A cheap gun, with the stamps mentioned, may be looked upon with suspicion as to its really having been in the official proof houses. 

Plastic parts can be molded with much greater complexity than is achievable with cast, forged or stamped metals. Thus, components that were assemblies of many metal parts can be molded as one plastic piece. This saves assembly, which is costly in fasteners and man-power. This is a major reason for the conversion from metals to plastics by the automobile industry.

Titanium can be forged, bent, cut, stamped, rolled, extruded and successfully welded under argon, making possible a large variety of electrode shapes, i.e. rod, sheet, tube, wire or mesh. It is a very light yet strong material with a high resistance to abrasion.
