Our material in no way resembles the Rhp4 described by Sharpe [17]. Following Sharpes procedure we obtained material similar to that described by him. It gave an X-ray powder pattern which indexed on the basis of a f.c.c. cell, a= 10-31 A, V = 1097 A , but satisfactory analyses for the stoichiometry Rhp4 or for any other binary fluoride composition were never obtained. We believe that this material obtained from bromine trifluoride is not RhF4. [Pg.321]

Haloalkenes can be prepared by dehydrohalogenating saturated hydrogen-containing polyhalocarbons using liquid alkali metal acid fluoride and/or alkali metal fluoride compositions [75], HCFC-133a can be converted to CF2=CHC1 using these catalyst systems as shown in eq 21. [Pg.204]

In case of the fabrication ofoxide/fluoride composite materials, trifluoroacetate sols are mixed with solutions of other compositions. For example, an aUcoxide solution composed of tetramethylorthosilicate (TMOS), methanol, water, and A,iV-dimethylformainide (DMF) is mixed with trifluoroacetate sols in preparing Si02 -based oxyfluoride glass-ceramics (Fujihara, 1999). However, optimal experimental conditions for the silica system alone are not necessarily suitable for the preparation of composites. Factors are concerned such as compositions, pH values, and types of catalysts. Because TFA acts as an acid catalyst in the processing ofSiOa-based systems, overall solution compositions should be simplified by understanding a role of each constituent (Fujihara, 2000c). [Pg.209]

In addition to the compositions described above, extensive research has been conducted with fluoride-based glasses and heavy metal oxide-based glasses. The original objective of this research was to produce ultralow-loss compositions for fiber applications. With fluoride compositions, in which the infrared absorption edge is pushed out beyond the 5-to 10-jJm range, attenuation values as low as 0.01 dB/km are theoretically possible. But to date, such performance has not been achieved in practice. This research has led to compositions that have found applications in other areas, in particular for fiber amplifiers. ... [Pg.527]
