Localization of the launcher is carried by the inertial reference system (IRS). The measured accelerations are then integrated to determine the position of the launcher, and the angular velocity measured by the gyrometers to determine the attitude of the launcher. [Pg.262]

This navigation is then used by the guidance that optimizes the trajectory at all times to reach the targeted orbit as effectively as possible. The guidance instractiorrs (created by mathematical eqrrations of the OBC) are transrrritted to the piloting function that calcrrlates the deflection to be applied to the nozzles of the different engines. [Pg.262]

The I/O software unit (LUES Logiciel Unite Entrees/Sorties), running on the UES card that manages the 1553 transfer of the frame and aperiodic transfers (immediate or dated), is an automaton based on the Aonix SMART executive. It manages the frame distributed on the two 1553 buses from information provided in the tables programmed in advance and placed in the exchange memory UT/UES. [Pg.263]

The flight software, executed on the UT card, can be broken down into several levels  [Pg.264]

Since the piezoelectric materials are responsive it represented an opportunity to conduct active experiments, collect real-time data and evaluate the performance of these materials in space. MISSE-6 is the first time that active remote experiments have been part of the MISSE project. Both active and passive experiments are flown allowing for a range of experiments and materials to be tested over the course of the exposure (estimated at 6-8 months, depending on the Shuttle flight program for sample recovery). [Pg.131]

Lot sample testing is carried out when subsequent/multiple lots tire manufactured or procured for any flight program. Random samples of 3-6% of the lot shall be subjected to critical performance and safety tests. This is to confirm that the safety tolerance of the cells remains the same for the subsequent new lots of cells manufactured. [Pg.404]

PROBE. A probe vehicle may be defined as one whose propellant is utilized within a few minutes subsequent to launch as part of the initial flight program. [Pg.31]

DEEP SPACE. A deep space vehicle is also one where the propellant is used subsequent to launch, but not as part of the initial flight program. Propellant utilization may be days, weeks, or even months later. [Pg.31]

There are three major types of entities involved in the human space flight program NASA field centers, NASA programs carried out at those centers, and industrial and academic contractors. The centers provide the infrastructure and support services for the various programs. The programs, along with field centers and headquarters, hire civil servants and contractors from the private sector to support aspects of their enterprises. [Pg.11]

The ITA should be endowed with the authority and the responsibility to gather its own data, make its own analyses, and run its own tests of hardware and software. Such informational independence will be costly, as the ITA will duplicate the efforts of others. But independent information will vastly reduce ITA s dependence on other NASA safety bodies. Finally, the ITA should be staffed and administered by people with backgrounds that do not include employment in NASA s manned space flight program. Eveiy organization develops its own norms, values, and assumptions. These norms and assumptions color the way organizational members view the world and... [Pg.94]

White House Office of Management and Budget (WHOMB) states that cost overruns on the ISS project will be recovered by redirecting money away from the human space flight program, of which the shuttle project is the largest component. [Pg.135]

The reliability of this particular battery is beyond any doubt. Because of their ultra-high reliability (cell reliability is better than 99%), Ag-Zn batteries are consistently deployed in manned space flight programs and have been used on every flight since the first NASA-manned suborbital flight of the Mercury-Redstone in 1961. This battery requires safe environmental handling to satisfy requirements for a recognized, safe method of disposal. [Pg.242]
