The European packaging industry is under heavy pressure, partly due to the cheap (dumped) imports from China, Indonesia, and Thailand and, more recently, from some Eastern European countries. The rapid decrease of the 50 kg PP woven sacks (or light bags) consumption is one of the most striking developments of the last years. This phenomenon can be observed in all countries and is mainly due to the competition from palletized PO sacks, of 500 kg bags, and from bulk transportation. On the other hand, a spectacular increase in the consumption of Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBC) up to 2000 kg has been noticed. Evolution of the packaging products in Europe denotes the increase of bags and FIBC [719, 801-803] (Table 18).
