Flavors fragrances

Diketones contain two carbonyl groups and are named by adding the suffix -dione to the parent hydrocarbon, and by indicating the position of the carbonyl groups using the smallest numbers possible. Diketones are generally used as specialty chemical intermediates in the pharmaceutical, flavor, fragrance, and dye industries. [Pg.496]

A considerable range of products, including flavors, fragrances, agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and polymers, has been developed using these chemicals as either synthetic intermediates or ingredients (3). [Pg.173]

Organic from Water An area where pei vaporation may become important is in flavors, fragrances, and essential oils. Here, high-value materials with unique properties are recovered from aqueous or alcohol solutions. [Pg.2055]

Methyl vanillin is used in flavorings, fragrances, pharmaceuticals, and perfumes. It is closely related to ethyl vanillin, a slightly larger molecule. [Pg.68]

Fine chemicals These are produced in small volumes and purchased on the basis of chemical composition, purity and price. Examples are chloropropylene oxide (used for the manufacture of epoxy resins, ion-exchange resins and other products), dimethyl formamide (used, for example, as a solvent, reaction medium and intermediate in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals), n-butyric acid (used in beverages, flavorings, fragrances and other products) and barium titanate powder (used for the manufacture of electronic capacitors). [Pg.1]

Besides their essential roles in nature, isoprenoids are of commercial importance in industry. Some isoprenoids have been used as flavors, fragrances, spices, and food additives, while many are used as pharmaceuticals to treat an array of human diseases, such as cancer (Taxol), malaria (artemisinin), and HIV (coumarins). In contrast to the huge market demand, isoprenoids are present only in low abundance in their host organisms. Thus, isolation of the required isoprenoids consumes a large quantity of natural resources. Furthermore, owing to their structural complexity, total chemical synthesis is often not commercially feasible. For these reasons, metabolic engineering may provide an alternative to produce these valuable isoprenoids [88,89]. [Pg.274]
