Carbon Steel Bolting. Except where limited by other provisions of this Code, carbon steel bolting may be used with nonmetallic gaskets in flanged joints rated ASME B16.5 Class 300 and lower for bolt metal temperatures at -29°C to 204°C (-20°F to 400°F), inclusive. If these bolts are galvanized, heavy hexagon nuts, threaded to suit, shall be used. [Pg.105]

Flanged connections used in propane systems shall have gaskets that are compatible with propane and also have a melting point of greater than 816°C (1500°F) [3.14]. Whenever flanged joints are opened in propane systems, the gasket is to be replaced. [Pg.89]

Teflon, although unaffected by contact with fluorine under static conditions, does not hold up in contact with fluorine flow. At the low temperatures it is also difficult to maintain seals with these materials. Materials for this kind of service are still needed. Soft metal gaskets of aluminum or copper are generally used for flange joints. [Pg.10]

For the majority of moderate-temperature services, composition gaskets on raised face flanges are acceptable. At flanged joints where additional reliability is desired or for higher temperatures, spiral-wound gaskets on raised face flanges should be used. For services with special temperature, pressure, or chemical hazard problems, a ring-type joint or equivalent should be considered. [Pg.289]

Use flanges, fittings, and gaskets with an equal inside diameter - rate of impingement = squareof maximum joint error in alignment... [Pg.320]

All welded joints were made with extraordinaiy care and tested by several nondestructive methods before being approved for use. Flanged joints were assembled with stainless steel ring gaskets of oval cross section... [Pg.356]
