Five Seals

Gas Holders Gas is sometimes stored in expandable gas holders of either the hquid-seal or dry-seal type. The hquid-seal holder is a familiar sight. It has a cylindrical container, closed at the top, and varies its volume by moving it up and down in an annular water-filled seal tank. The seal tank may be staged in several lifts (as many as five). Seal tanks have been built in sizes up to 280,000 m (10 X lO fE). The dry-seal holder has a rigid top attached to the sidewalls by a flexible fabric diaphragm which permits it to move up and down. It does not involve the weight and foundation costs or the hquid-seal holder. Additional information on gas holders can be found in Gas Engineers Handbook, Industrial Press, New York, 1966. [Pg.1019]

Have someone prepare five sealed paper bags, each containing an item commonly found in a home. [Pg.65]

Aerosols differ from other packs partly because they are pressurised and partly because of the number of seals. For example, a tinplate can normally has about five seal areas. [Pg.342]

In effect, in the Pronoia Hymn, salvation from contingent cosmic bondage is a two-step process first, Pronoia descends and physically alters the cosmos so as to make enslavement physically impossible second, she seals the recipient of salvation in the light of the water with five seals (gu noyoGm HUHOOY gu d-G Nc4>pi nc) ApJn II31,20). [Pg.127]

The epiphany of the Apocryphon of John occurs when in a moment of divine revelation, the protagonist John recognizes that he is constituted of a fundamentally different substance than the lower celestial beings. This moment of epiphany coincides with, and corresponds to, the sacramental rite of baptism. In the Pronoia H)mtn that culminates the long recension of the Apjn, Pronoia descends and confers the Five Seals on Adam, who asks. [Pg.145]

At the culmination of these words, Pronoia raises up the one she has awakened and prepares to baptize or seal him in the light of the water with five seals Apjn II31, 24). [Pg.145]

Pumps are designed to give trouble-free operation for a long period of time. The ANSI B73.1M pumps are designed for a bearing life of no less than two years (29), and API 610 pumps for a minimum of five years (30). However, in real appHcations, a typical mean time between faUures (MTBF) is often found to be significantly less, and sometimes it is as short as a few weeks. Whereas in some instaUations the seals last from three to four years, in others these are replaced monthly. The reason for such wide variations in pump component life is often not poor pump design but equipment misappHcation. [Pg.300]

The most recent, and probably most elegant, process for the asymmetric synthesis of (+)-estrone appHes a tandem Claisen rearrangement and intramolecular ene-reaction (Eig. 23). StereochemicaHy pure (185) is synthesized from (2R)-l,2-0-isopropyhdene-3-butanone in an overall yield of 86% in four chemical steps. Heating a toluene solution of (185), enol ether (187), and 2,6-dimethylphenol to 180°C in a sealed tube for 60 h produces (190) in 76% yield after purification. Ozonolysis of (190) followed by base-catalyzed epimerization of the C8a-hydrogen to a C8P-hydrogen (again similar to conversion of (175) to (176)) produces (184) in 46% yield from (190). Aldehyde (184) was converted to 9,11-dehydroestrone methyl ether (177) as discussed above. The overall yield of 9,11-dehydroestrone methyl ether (177) was 17% in five steps from 6-methoxy-l-tetralone (186) and (185) (201). [Pg.436]

The positive plates are siatered silver on a silver grid and the negative plates are fabricated from a mixture of cadmium oxide powder, silver powder, and a binder pressed onto a silver grid. The main separator is four or five layers of cellophane with one or two layers of woven nylon on the positive plate. The electrolyte is aqeous KOH, 50 wt %. In the aerospace appHcations, the plastic cases were encapsulated in epoxy resins. Most usehil cell sizes have ranged from 3 to 15 A-h, but small (0.1 A-h) and large (300 A-h) sizes have been evaluated. Energy densities of sealed batteries are 26-31 W-h/kg. [Pg.557]

In a i-l. three-necked, round-bottom flask fitted with a mechanical stirrer through a mercury seal, a separatory funnel and an efficient reflux condenser to which a calcium chloride tube is attached, are placed 25 g. (1.03 moles) of magnesium turnings 140 cc. of dry ether, and a small crystal of iodine. The stirrei is started and a small portion (about 10 cc.) of a solution of 118.5 g. (i mole) of cyclohexyl bromide (Note i) in 120 cc. of dry ether is added through the separatory funnel. After the reaction starts, the remainder of the solution is run in at such a rate that the whole is added at the end of forty-five minutes. The mixture is stirred and refluxed for an additional thirty to forty-five minutes. [Pg.22]

The RR developed by the author at UCC was the only one that had a high recycle rate with a reasonably known internal flow (Berty, 1969). This original reactor was named later after the author as the Berty Reactor . Over five hundred of these have been in use around the world over the last 30 years. The use of Berty reactors for ethylene oxide process improvement alone has resulted in 300 million pounds per year increase in production, without addition of new facilities (Mason, 1966). Similar improvements are possible with many other catalytic processes. In recent years a new blower design, a labyrinth seal between the blower and catalyst basket, and a better drive resulted in an even better reactor that has the registered trade name of ROTOBERTY . ... [Pg.280]

In dry compressors, shaft end seals are generally one of five type.s. These are labyrinth, restrictive ring, mechanical contact, liquid film, and dry gas seal. The labyrinth type is the most simple but has the highest leakage. The labyrinth seal is generally ported at an axial point between the seals in order to use an eductor or ejector to control leakage and direct it to the suction or a suitable disposal area. Alternatively, a buffer gas is used to prevent the loss of process gas. Appendix D presents a calculation method for use with labyrinth seals. [Pg.117]

If oil buffered seals are used on the compressors, the seal leakage toward the process side of the compressor must be carefully measured, as it is (and should be) a small value. While five gallons per day doesn t sound too small, in a four-hour run, this is less than two pints, making the hold-up time at the inner seal chamber and in the lines to the drain pots a significant value. This makes exact measurement quite difficult. [Pg.409]
