Fitness determination

A pump lifts water from a lake. At the pump suction entry a foot valve is fitted. Determine the maximum static delivery height the water can be raised without cavitation taking place. The saturation pressure of water is 1.23 kPa at 10 °C and the dynamic viscosity is 1.3 x 10" kg m s T The suction pipe water velocity is 2.0 m s , the internal pipe diameter is 100 mm, and the pipe roughness is 0.03 mm. The resistance of the foot valve is 4.5. [Pg.62]

The various volumes of rock matrix, shale, porosity, overpressure porosity and hydrocarbons are used to compute the various tool responses according to a model. The responses are compared to the measured values and a volume optimization is made to minimize the errors grouped in an incoherence function. The value of the incoherence function for the best fit determines the quality of the answer. Figure 4-335 is an example of formation pressure calculation as well as formation evaluation for lithology and fluid content. [Pg.1055]

Hulbert [77] points out that, in general, attempts to include an allowance for the influence of particle size variations in the reactant mixtures on kinetic analyses using the above equations have been unsatisfactory because some of the parameters are not readily defined. Kapur [42], working with powders of known crystal size distribution, indicated that the overall extent of reaction can be estimated by a summation of the individual contributions from each size fraction and thus the best kinetic fit determined. [Pg.70]

In these and in many other reports, the size analysis is based on a full profile fit determined by using predefined line profiles (Voigt, pseudo-Voigt) and an intensity fitting according to the Rietveldt method (McCusker et al., 1999). This procedure, which requires substantial effort in data analysis, is reliable, provided that no changes in sample geometry... [Pg.301]

The mono- and di-substituted benzenes, for which the relative swelling power (C as defined in Eq. 14) have been determined thus far, are listed in Tables 2-4. In every case the volume (S) of sorbed liquid per gram of polymer increased linearly with X1/3 as noted in Figs. 9-11, and the square of the correlation coefficient (r) to the line of best fit, determined by linear regression analysis of the set of six S-data points, was in every case r2 > 0.99, and q13 was equal to 1.84 0.09. The corresponding C and oc (calculated therefrom Eq. 15) are also collected in Tables 2-4. These data show clearly that the value a = 2.50 for benzene is greater than that for any benzene derivative listed therein. Any substituent in place of... [Pg.43]

The FWHM of the D (Ga) line was found to be roughly proportional to the ratio Ni/Nq where N is 2[As] and No is [Ga] - [As], indicating the dominant contribution of a quadrupole interaction between the acceptor atoms and the electric field gradient. Estimations of the compensation dependence of the FWHM of D (Ga) for correlated and random distributions of ionized impurities showed that the experimental dependence could be explained by a correlated distribution (with the random model, the dependence of the FWHM on Nj was overestimated by a factor of 4-5). The comparison of the correlated distribution fit with the experimental dependence also showed that the domain of validity of the fit determined by Kogan and Lien [83] extended beyond the compensation limit where the fit was supposed to be valid. By... [Pg.417]
