Filament life

For long filament life, turn off the detector current overnight for the highest stability the next morning, leave it on (along with the oven temperature). [Pg.242]

Guided by the operating manual, set the current higher for better sensitivity, lower for long filament life. [Pg.243]

The filament life is extended by tnming off the current when the detector is not in use. However, leaving the cnrrent on for extended periods of time (along with the oven temperature) gives the highest detector stability in the morning. [Pg.298]

At high operating filament currents, better detectability is obtained, while at low filament currents the life of the filament is extended. Following the instructions provided in the operating manual for the detector will extend filament life. [Pg.298]

Kingery 1990) and sold very widely, but they had to capitulate to the tungsten filament lamp after 1911. They had an effective commercial life of only 12 years. [Pg.367]

Pj release occurs at a relatively apparent slow rate (kobs = 0.005 s" ), so that the transient intermediate F-ADP-Pj in which P is non-covalently bound, has a life time of 2-3 minutes (Carlier and Pantaloni, 1986 Carlier, 1987). While the y-phosphate cleavage step is irreversible as assessed by 0 exchange studies (Carlier et al., 1987), the release of Pi is reversible. Binding of H2PO4 (Kp 10 M) causes the stabilization of actin filaments and the rate of filament growth varies linearly with the concentration of actin monomer in the presence of Pi (Carlier and Pantaloni, 1988). Therefore, Pi release appears as the elementary step responsible for the destabilization of actin-actin interactions in the filament. [Pg.47]

Neurospora crassa is a filamentous pink mould. It became famous to scientists due to the work of Beadle and Tatum in the 1940s when they developed the one gene—one enzyme hypothesis. Its life cycle is shown in Fig. 2.9. Unforturrately, the full force of fungal nomenclature comes into play when considering this organism. Aerial hyphae... [Pg.47]
