Magnetic field active gel utilizing super paramagnetic property of a ferro-fluid-immobilized gel. O/ ferrofluid 75wt% O, ferrofluid 50wt% , ferrofluid 25wt%. 

The primcay pumps have a top entry, single mixed flow impeller and a flywheel to extend the run-down time on loss of power supply. A decision was taken to opt for a simple design without valves which implies all three pumps must be available for reactor operation. An innovative feature, recently introduced to the pump design, is a magnetic upper bearing with a ferro-fluid seal to eliminate oil and the potential hazard of its ingress into the sodium completely. 

Dry dense medium (pneumatic fluidized-bed) separation has been used, but has not received wide attention by the industry. An area of promise for future development is the use of magnetically stabilized dense medium beds by using ferro or magnetic fluids (2,10). As an example of modeling a fluid in redox disequilibrium, we use an analysis, slightly simplified from Nordstrom et al. (1992), of a groundwater sampled near the Morro do Ferro ore district in Brazil (Table 7.2). There are three measures of oxidation state in the analysis the Eh value determined by platinum electrode, the dissolved oxygen content, and the distribution of iron between ferrous and ferric species.

Applications of supercritical fluids for coatings and impregnation of porous and fibrous substrates (e.g., polymer fibers, wood, composite materials) with various chemicals are discussed in a number of articles (50-52). Mandel and Wang (53) reported the use of a solution of polymers diluted with SCCO2 for powder-coating applications. They reported that Ferro Corporation has developed the so-called VAMP process used in the production of powder coatings, new polymers and polymer additives, and various biomaterials, with good potential for productions of pharmaceuticals.
