Woodstock Fa rms This company makes my favorite organic butter, and I like their simple philosophy and consistent taste and quality. In April 1964 the first Canadian rapeseed trade delegation traveled to Japan, it being Canada s largest customer for rapeseed. The Japanese have been growing rapeseed for many generations but the pressure of a larger population on a small land base has made them look abroad for farm com-... [Pg.78]

Preliminary results indicate a reduction of enteric emissions by an average of 12% and an increase in omega-3 fatty acids in milk. [Pg.65]

The second topic addressed is that of the American farmer. The remarks of one farmer at the Com Utilization Conference in November, 1988 (Columbus, Ohio) defined the situation "The soil and rainfall on my farm in Colorado are not good enough to compete with those in South America we have to find new applications for agricultural products". Perhaps because he was not a traditional farmer (he had entered farming as a result of land acquisitions and resigned from a marketing position with an electronics company), he clearly saw the marketing need. One of the objectives of the annual Corn Utilization... [Pg.52]

We learned to formulate com ethanol way back— it s nothing more than moonshine. What makes the E3 Biofuels facihty so novel isn t its spectacular equipment but the way the equipment is fueled. The most important structures here happen also to be the least beautiful a pair of four-story milhon-gallon fuel tanks, each filled to the brim with cow manure. Historically, ethanol plants were fired by coal or natural gas. But methane, produced from manure, powers this operation. Not only do no fossil fuels go into the plant, very fitde pollution comes out. It s a nearly closed energy loop (some corn has to be bought from other farms). (Khosla)... [Pg.172]

The semi-lethal dose of T2 mycotoxin is considered to be 5 mg/kg, although at a dose of 0.1 mg/kg vital changes in a number of biochemical indexes are observed. The maximal permitted concentration of this toxin in com is 100 pg/kg [32, 34]. Taking into account this value we chose appropriate T2 mycotoxin concentrations for the experiments. Initially it was dissolved in ethanol and then diluted with 0.05 M Tris-HCl buffer (pH 7.3) to make a series of solutions with different concentrations. T2 mycotoxin was kindly provided by Dr. Kotik from the Institute of Poultry Farming (Ukraine). Specific antibodies (Ab) against T2 were purchased from Sigma (USA). [Pg.93]

In France, the amount of area devoted to com crops actually fell between 1840 and 1944, dropping from an estimated 630 000 to 200 000 ha. Much of the com crop, especially silage com, was used to feed livestock raised on the farm. The decline in area was not consistent over France and was particularly marked in the southwest, where farming used less technology. [Pg.59]
