Family future

An important future use for maleic anhydride is beUeved to be the production of products in the 1,4-butanediol—y-butyrolactone—tetrahydrofuran family. Davy Process Technology has commercialized a process (93) for producing 1,4-butanediol from maleic anhydride. This technology can be used to produce the product mix of the three molecules as needed by the producer. Another significant effort in this area is the tetrahydrofuran plant under constmction in Spain by Du Pont in which butane is oxidized and recovered as maleic acid and the maleic acid is then reduced to tetrahydrofuran (109). 

Future brakes must satisfy health standards and most vehicle manufacturers have moved toward removing all asbestos from brakes. Lighter weight rotors and caUpers based on aluminum-based metal-matrix materials are also on the horizon for lighter vehicles requiring a whole new family of compatible friction materials. 

Research in ionic liquid methodology is still young and there is still a lot to explore. Prevention of fundamental research on some new families of ionic liquids by exploitation of an IP position would simply kill off a lot of future possibilities.

In terms of the carbanion equivalent, the enolase superfamily has a strong relation with decarboxylation reaction. This family is characteristic in its promiscuity. If one is reminded of the phrase lock and key theory for the relation between the substrate and the enzyme, the word promiscuity of the enzyme may be unbelievable. However, in addition to natural promiscuity, we can change the enzyme to be promiscuous by introducing mutation, especially in the case of the enolase superfamily. This will be one of the challenging problems in future. For that purpose, biotechnology and informatics skill will be essential tool in addition to precise analysis of the reaction mechanism.

Before going organic, the family must decide what standard of living they require from the farm and what income they are likely to require in the future. This is not to say that all the income must come from the farm often there will be supplementary income from a different source, but the likely income from the organic farm must be calculated as accurately as possible. Eder is a member of the Caprifoliaceae (Honeysuckle) family. Also included in that family are honeysuckles, snowberries, twinflowers, viburnums, and weigelas. There is some discussion about giving elder its own family name, so in the future it may well be called the Sambucaceae family. Elder are mainly small trees or shrubs, yet some are climbing lianas. They all have bisexual flowers. Native to Europe, Western Asia and Northern Africa, elder is widely distributed in temperate and subtropic regions.
