Families Anonymous

In his will, Cavendish left none of his money to science. Most likely he believed that, because the money had come from his family, it should go back to the family. The famous Cavendish laboratory at Cambridge was founded on the bequest of a relative 61 years after Henry Cavendish s death. He was buried in All Saint s Church in Derby, now Derby Cathedral, but there is no plaque in the cathedral to indicate his interment there. Most likely Cavendish would have been pleased to know that he was to be as anonymous in death as he was reclusive in life. 

The immediate concern in the treatment of alcoholics is detoxification and management of the ethanol withdrawal syndrome. Once the patient is detoxified, longterm treatment requires complete abstinence, psychiatric treatment, family involvement, and frequently support from lay organizations such as Alcoholics Anonymous.

Al-Anon is a national support organization for family members of alcoholics, and Alateen performs the same function for children of alcoholics. The organization is derived from Alcoholic Anonymous and adapts the 12 steps and other AA traditions to help persons intimately affected by others abuse of alcohol. There are more than 24,000 Al-Anon and 2,300 Alateen groups in 115 countries worldwide. 

Alcoholics Anonymous, the great self-help group-therapy movement, is the only established treatment for alcoholics. Until much more is known about the personal (biochemical and psychological), familial, and social factors that contribute to alcoholism, so it will remain. Most new therapies are merely adjunctive to AA and will continue to be so until it is shown that they have therapeutic value when used alone. In my view, psychedelic therapy is best used as a preparation for AA. 

The Insitute for Genomic Research (TIGR) provides a collection of curated databases containing DNA and protein sequences, gene expressions, cellular roles, protein families, and taxonomic data for microbes, plants, and humans. Anonymous FTP access to sequence data is also provided. 

Almost nothing is known of Lascaris, except that he is thought to have come from a noble Greek family. He is said to have taught Bottger, and to have performed a successful double transmutation in Germany on 16 February 1709. Further anonymous transmutations in the Rhineland in 1716, and in Odenwald in 1733 are also thought to have been his work. He is seen by some as one of the incarnations of Elias Artista, the alchemical messiah. 

Some echinacea-containing products have been found to be contaminated with Parthenium integrifolium, a plant of the same family that has no known pharmacologic activity (Anonymous, 1996). 

Although other members of the Boraginaceae family contain hepatocarcinogenic pyrrolizidine alkaloids, there are no reports of similar compounds in common borage (Anonymous, 1992).

The other members of this family of compounds are phosphorodithioic acid derivatives. Of these, menazon, 0,0-dimethyl-S-(4,6-diamino-l,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-methyl phosphorodithioate (78), distinguishes itself by its low toxicity to warmblooded animals. It is prepared by cyclisation of biguanide and ethyl chloroacetate, upon which the 2-chloromethyl-4,6 iaminotriazine formed is reacted with sodium 0,0-dimethyl phosphorodithioate (Anonym, 1958).
