The base sections had begun to report stock status to the theater and SOS chemical sections in April under the increased reporting requirement. However, their reports were little more comprehensive than the earlier informal reports until June, when comprehensive reports from ABS and MBS and a partial report from Eastern Base Section permitted the theater and SOS chemical sections to compile the first full-scale stock status report. Goggles come in a number of different styles, for example, eyecups, flexible or cushioned goggles, and plastic eyeshield goggles. Goggles are manufactured in several styles for specific uses, such as protecting against dusts and splashes, and in chipper s, welder s, and cutter s models. Safety spectacles require special frames. Combinations of normal streetwear frames with safety lenses are not in compliance.

To satisfy the Army demand for eyeshields the CWS procured almost 72,000,000 of them through private contracts. The eyeshield consisted of a cellulose acetate sheet (which was cither clear or tinted), impermeable cloth, webbing, and metal hardware. The cellulose acetate sheeting and impermeable cloth were die cut and the webbing and hardware assembled to these components. The assembly process was relatively simple. The eye-shields were packaged in packets of 4—2 clear and 2 tinted. ...
