Eyes, zinc content

Human eye tissue is usually analysed for the presence of zinc salt (sterilising agent) content after acid digestion in a microwave oven at elevated temperature and pressure. This solution can also be used for analyses of other metals for medical management and post mortem studies. [Pg.236]

Butter of Zinc, smoke known as hexite respiratory and eye irritant. Common mixture is the zinc chloride smoke mixture (HC), consisting of hex-achloroethane, fine-grained aluminium and zinc oxide. The smoke consists mainly of zinc chloride, zinc oxychlorides and hydrochloric acid. Its toxicity is caused mainly by the content of strongly acidic hydrochloric acid, but also to thermal effects of the reaction of zinc chloride with water. Lesions of the mucous membranes of the airways, dyspnea, retrosternal pain, hoarseness, stridor, lachrymation, cough, expectoration, and in some cases haemoptysis. Delayed pulmonary... [Pg.707]

The body content in a 70-kg man is about 2.5 g zinc, which is mainly in muscles (60%) and skeleton (30%) [32]. The remaining 10% is distributed in all tissues with highest concentrations in eyes, prostate, and hair. All tissue levels depend on age. [Pg.669]

The adult human body contains from 1.4-3.0g zinc, which is about a third to half the iron content, approximately 1-15 times the copper content and about 100 times the amont of manganese. Roughly half of the total zinc present is contained in muscles and about a third in the bones. High concentrations of zinc are found mainly in skin, hair, nails, eye, liver, kidney, spleen and male genital organs. In the cells of the liver, kidney and some other internal organs, zinc is bound in metallothionein. [Pg.436]

Zinc. The organism contains between 2 and 4 gm of zinc, almost as much as iron. While iron occurs predominantly in blood bound in hemoglobin, zinc is in the cells. Some organs have a conspicuously high content of zinc the eyes, up to 0..5%. [Pg.373]
