Eyelid urticaria

Allergic reactions (eg, bronchospasm, urticaria, pruritus, angioneurotic edema, or swelling of the lips, eyelids, tongue, and nasal mucosa) due to anaphylactic shock caused by stinging insects (primarily of the order Hymenoptera, that includes bees, wasps, hornets, yellow jackets, bumble... 

Allergic disorders of the eyelid include atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, and urticaria. Eczema is a common feature of both atopic and contact dermatitis.Table 27-5 summarizes the clinical manifestations and management of each entity. 

A 67-year-old woman developed urticaria and angio-edema of the eyelids after a single dose of pseudoephedrine. 

A 45-year-old white man, who had taken losartan, hydrochlorothiazide, allopurinol, and colchicine for 9 months, developed facial urticaria, eyelid swelling, shortness of breath, and upper chest tightness, which resolved quickly with famotidine, methylprednisolone, and adrenaline. He had a recurrence 7 hours later, not having taken another dose of losartan. The patient had no history of allergy and was well after losartan withdrawal. 

Also known as Quincke s edema, giant urticaria, and angioneurotic edema, this acute, evanescent, skin-colored, circumscribed edema usually affects the most distensible tissues the lips, eyelids, earlobes, and genitalia. It can also affect the mucous membranes of the tongue, mouth, and larynx. 

Urticaria may be the only symptom of drug sensitivity, or it may be a concomitant or followed by the manifestations of serum sickness. Urticaria may be accompanied by angioedema of the lips or eyelids. It may, on rare occasions, progress to anaphylactoid reactions or to anaphylaxis.
