Eye irrigation

Capillary phenomena are also essential in tribology and in many biological systems, such as blood circulation and eye irrigation, involving the formation and persistence of the lachrymal film. 

Ensure fast-acting showers are available close to site of use/storage plus eye-wash fountains or similar facilities for eye irrigation. 

Decontaminate the casualty ensuring that all nerve agents have been removed. If nerve agents have gotten into the eyes, irrigate the eyes with water or 0.9% saline solution for at least 15 minutes. Irrigate open wounds with water or 0.9% saline solution for at least 10 minutes. However, do not delay treatment if thorough decontamination cannot be... 

In order to minimize absorption through the skin, all contaminated clothing should be removed and the skin should be washed with mild soap and water (Bronstein and Currance 1988 Stutz and Ulin 1992). In cases where the compound has been splashed into the eyes, irrigation with large amounts of water for 15-30 minutes has been recommended. 

Following dermal or ocular exposures to hydrazines, there are several methods by which absorption can be reduced. All contaminated clothing should be removed, and contacted skin should be washed immediately with soap and water (Bronstein and Currance 1988 Haddad and Winchester 1990 Sittig 1991 Stutz and Janusz 1988). Eyes that have come in contact with hydrazines should be flushed with copious amounts of water. Contact lenses should be removed prior to flushing with water. Proparacaine hydrochloride may be used to assist eye irrigation (Bronstein and Currance 1988).
