Extrusion lamination calendering

This method provides coated fabrics with good flexibility since the polyurethane does not penetrate between the weave of the fabric. The films may be made by extrusion or calendering and a variety of methods are available for bonding the film to the fabric. Solvent and latex adhesives may be used in conjunction with oven or drum laminators and the composites can be embossed and printed. [Pg.255]

Extrusion, lay flat tubing, calendering, casting, solvent or aqueous dispersion coating, etc. for single layer materials. Multilayer processes—wet or dry bonding (lamination), extrusion coating, coextrusion, etc. [Pg.330]

Multilayer co-extrusion is another technique used in the preparation of starch/ synthetic sheets or films [164, 263-266], in which TPS is laminated with appropriate biodegradable polymers to improve the mechanical, water-resistance and gas-barrier properties of final products. These products have shown potential for applications such as food packaging and disposable product manufacture. Three-layer co-extrusion is most often practiced, in which a co-extrusion line consists of two single-screw extruders (one for the inner starch layer and the other for the outer polymer layers) a feedblock a coat-hanger-type sheet die and a three-roll calendering system [164]. Biodegradable polyesters such as PCL [164, 264], PLA [164, 263], and polyesteramide, PBSA and poly(hydroxybutyrate-co-valerate) [164] are often used for the outer layers. These new blends and composites are extending the utilization of starch-based materials into new value-added products. [Pg.147]

It is necessary for the development of suitable methods of product fabrication to have some types of polyurethane elastomer which can be processed as solids using similar methods to those employed for conventional natural and synthetic rubbers, namely two-roll mill or internal mixing and compounding procedures, calendering, extrusion, moulding, fabrication of complex rubber-textile laminates and the like. [Pg.199]

Barex resin extruded sheet and/or calendered sheet (153) can be easily ther-moformed into lightweight, rigid containers (152,154). Packages can be printed, laminated, or metallized. Recent developments in extrusion and injection blow molding (152,155), laminated film structures (152,156), and coextrusion (153,157) have led to packaging uses for a variety of products. Barex resins are especially well-suited for bottle production. These acrylonitrile copolsmiers also provide a... [Pg.236]

Calendering. The rheological characteristics of the sheet extrusion grades of ABS easily adapt them to calendering to produce film from 0.12 to 0.8 mm thick for vacuum forming or as laminates for sheet. The advantages of this process over extrusion are the capability for thinner gauge product and quick turnaround for short runs. [Pg.284]

An extruder is a complex device used in plastics plants. It is composed of a heated jacket, set of screws or screw, heated die, large motor, gearbox, and pelletizer. The extruder melts a polypropylene granule mixture to encapsulate additives, quickly quenches it, and cuts it into small pellets that are easier to handle. A simple plastics system includes equipment for extrusion, molding, casting, laminating, and calendering. [Pg.244]

Highly suited for incontinence items. Thermally bonded laminates with cotton core and outer layer of MB and/or spunbonded (SB) webs process are designed by encapsulation of carded bleached cotton web with outer layers of MB PP and/or SB PP after extrusion process, prior to calendering. [Pg.477]

An outstanding feature of this process is the very high output for a comparatively low energy input, compared with extrusion further, it is especially suitable for heat-sensitive materials. Calendering is used to produce film and sheet, and for laminating plastics film to other substrates, including other plastics films, textiles, paper and metal foil. [Pg.12]
