Expandable paint

Currently, expandable paints represent the most sophisticated answer. Their formulations are quite complex. They consist of acid based compounds, mainly phosphoric acid derivatives (e.g. ammonium phosphate or polyphosphate), polyhydroxy compounds (such as pentaerythrite, starch, phenolic or urea resin), non-combustible gas-forming compounds (such as chloroparafiins or melamines), and a polymeric matrix (e.g. chlorinated rubber). Such a coating gives good protection but its appearance is generally poor. [Pg.399]

The rate of stripping or the stripabiUty on cataly2ed urethane and epoxy resin finishes can be increased by adding formic acid, acetic acid, and phenol. Sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, and trisodium phosphate [10101-89-0] may be added to the formula to increase the stripabiUty on enamel and latex paints. Other activators include oleic acid [112-80-17, trichloroacetic acid [76-85-9], ammonia, triethanolamine [102-71-6], and monoethyl amine. Methylene chloride-type removers are unique in their abiUty to accept cosolvents and activators that allow the solution to be neutral, alkaline, or acidic. This abihty gready expands the number of coatings that can be removed with methylene chloride removers. [Pg.551]

An expanded mica (hydrated magnesium-aluminium-iron silicate). Used in lightweight aggregates, insulation, fertilizer and soil conditioners, as a filler in rubber and paints, and as a catalyst carrier. [Pg.79]

Reduce heat output or provide shielding. Radiant heat can be reduced by several methods such as insulating the equipment s hot surfaces, painting it with aluminum paint to reduce heat emission or by installing a screen (two layers of expanded metal) between the workstation and the equipment. [Pg.428]

When the company planned to expand production the local authorities ordered the company to reduce its current air emissions. As a result the company intended to install equipment to capture the trichloroethylene and incinerate the solvents from the painting plant.31 However, an independent... [Pg.33]

Use of an expandable polymer insert that expands during the paint setting. [Pg.751]

Iron oxides have served man for centuries. Since the red and yellow ochres were first used to help produce prehistoric paintings in caves such as those at Lascaux, the role of iron oxides has expanded enormously. Their application as pigments and their ability to catalyse various chemical reactions, their role as the precursors of iron and steel and their activity as adsorbants in the ecosphere are just a few examples of the contribution of these compounds to the well-being of man. [Pg.699]

The SCR catalyst designed for FCCU regenerator flue gas service is a homogenous monolith, typically made from 1 mm thick material. Some catalysts are extruded clays that receive a wash coat of titanium dioxide before impregnation of the vanadium and tungsten metals. Another type involves painted plates of expanded metal... [Pg.327]
