Several authors have already developed methodologies for the simulation of hybrid distillation-pervaporation processes. Short-cut methods were developed by Moganti et al. [95] and Stephan et al. [96]. Due to simplifications such as the use of constant relative volatility, one-phase sidestreams, perfect mixing on feed and permeate sides of the membrane, and simple membrane transport models, the results obtained should only be considered qualitative in nature. Verhoef et al. [97] used a quantitative approach for simulation, based on simplified calculations in Aspen Plus/Excel VBA. Hommerich and Rautenbach [98] describe the design and optimization of combined pervaporation-distillation processes, incorporating a user-written routine for pervaporation into the Aspen Plus simulation software. This is an improvement over most approaches with respect to accuracy, although the membrane model itself is still quite... [Pg.57]

First we discuss VBA, a powerful development environment used directly from within the Microsoft Office suite of programs. Typically, Word or Excel is most frequently used, since many LIMS and instrument software directly export reports in these formats. One of the primary advantages with VBA is the rich, intuitive object model that is provided by each of the Microsoft Office applications. The implementation of VBA as a cost-effective and first-line approach to data automation in drug discovery has been reported [76]. Bisset s book entitled Practical Pharmaceutical Automation contains many examples of Excel VBA in the laboratory setting [67]. [Pg.529]

Simulation models like the one used in this example are very useful in practising Box-Wilson strategy. It can be obtained upon request from the author in the form of a Matlab, R or Excel VBA. For maximal learning, the user is advised to start the procedure at different locations. [Pg.96]

Distillation Synthesis). Add Aspen Plus library (that is. Aspen Simulation Workbook - V8.4) to VBA (Excel - VBA - Tools - References). Note that the user needs to install Aspen Plus on his/her computer before adding Aspen Plus library. In Aspen Plus, Variable Explorer is used to identify the VBA syntax for all variables in process streams or units (Aspen Plus - Tools - Variable Explorer)... [Pg.121]

Retrieve the vapor pressure and the liquid density data for methane from the DDBSP Explorer Version and export the values to Excel. Implement a liquid vapor pressure curve calculation for the van der Waals equation of state in Excel-VBA and compare the results along the vapor-liquid coexistence curve to the experimental data. [Pg.60]

Pivotal to the whole process of characterization is automated data processing. Using the Discovery corporate database, OpenLynx software features, and custom-developed Excel VBA macros, we are able to analyze and process in a fully automated procedure about 100 compounds per day. [Pg.686]

Earlier in our group, au Excel VBA-based software tool—LCSoft—was developed according to the standard for the environmental impact and carbon footprint analysis (Piyarak, 2012). The tool contains three main parts (i) LCI knowledge managanent, (ii) calculation factor estimation, and (iii) LCA calculation. It is noted that US ERA and IPCC emission factors are used to calculate the enviromnental impact for a given process. Figure 1.4 and Table 1.2 present the framewoik and a short description of each step of LCSofL... [Pg.12]
