Example Calculation of the Gurney Velocity for a General Purpose Bomb

1 Example Calculation of the Gurney Velocity for a General Purpose Bomb [Pg.145]

The MK80 GBP series is the abbreviation for a series of flying bombs whose effect is based on pressure and sphtter effect. All variations of this series show an optimized aerodynamic shape so that they can be used in quick-flying fighter planes. The MK80 series consists of bombs which are predominantly composed of the [Pg.145]

The MK84 (Fig. 7.22) is the largest bomb in the MK80 series. With a length of 3.8 m and a diameter of 46 cm they can be considered for the calculation of the Gurney velocity as being cylindrical. The total mass of the MK84 is 907 kg and the mass of the HE is approximately 430 kg. [Pg.145]

Therefore, if it is assumed to be a cylindrical charge, the fragment velocity can be approximated as follows  [Pg.145]
