More recently, a polyarylate-polyamide blend with improved chemical, stress-crack resistance is commercially offered (AX1500, Unitika). Due to the inherent immiscibUity of polyarylate with polyamide, the blend is opacpie and the notched Izod impact is somewhat sacrificed (Table 19.36). Compatibihty in polyarylate-PA6 blends could be achieved through addition of < 10 % of a reactive ethylene copolymer such as ethylene-glycidyl methacrylate copolymer (Okamoto et al. 1989). [Pg.1853]

Several researchers have added compatibilizers such as maleic anhydride modified PP or ethylene-glycidyl methacrylate to their blends in an attempt to promote stronger interfacial adhesion. Taepaiboon et at [54] observed that with the use of a compatibihzer (up to 7 wt%) mechanical results were mixed at its best and the mterfacial adhesion between the matrix and the dispersed phase did not improve much. The use of various quantities of a compatibihzer was also reported by FViedrich et aL [50] to have no noticeable influence on the flexural properties of MFCs from PP/PET, but to limit the formation of high aspect ratio microfibrUs by forming a surface layer on the PET spheres and preventing them from coalescing. [Pg.363]
