Ketone, /-butyl ethyl

Synonyms butyl ethyl ketone 3-heptanone heptan-3-one [Pg.580]

Ethyl butyl ketone is used as a solvent for nitrocellulose and polyvinyl resins, and as an intermediate in organic synthesis. [Pg.580]

Clear colorless liquid with a mild fruity odor bp 147°C (296.6°F) freezes at —39°C (-38.2°F) density 0.8183 at 20°C (68°F) soluble in alcohol and ether, insoluble in water. [Pg.580]

Inhalation of the vapor of ethyl butyl ketone can cause irritation to the eyes, skin, and mucous membranes. Its irritation effect was mild on rabbit skin and eyes. Prolonged skin contact can cause dermatitis. Exposure to 4000 ppm for 4 hours proved fatal to rats. Ingestion can cause headache and narcosis, and in large doses coma can occur. [Pg.580]

Combustible liquid flash point (open cup) 46°C (115°F) vapor density 4.0 (air = 1)  [Pg.580]

Toxicology. Ethyl butyl ketone (EBK) is mildly irritating to the skin and eyes of animals and causes narcosis at high concentrations. [Pg.314]

The 2003 ACGIH threshold limit value-time-weighted average (TLV-TWA) for ethyl butyl ketone is 50 ppm (234mg/m ). [Pg.314]

Katz GV et al Comparative neurotoxicity and metabolism of ethyl -butyl ketone and methyl -butyl ketone in rats. Toxicol Appl Pharmacol 52 153-158, 1980... [Pg.314]

Animal studies have shown MEK to enhance the development of or increase the severity of neurotoxic effects due to methyl n-butyl ketone, ethyl butyl ketone, -hexane, and 2,5-hexanedione."MEK exposure did not, however, potentiate the neurobehavioral test decrements produced by acetone. Exposure to 200 ppm MEK or 100 ppm MEK plus 12 5 ppm acetone for 4 hours did not produce any significant effects in a variety of behavioral performance tests, whereas exposure to 250 ppm acetone caused some mild decrements. The liver and kidney toxicity of haloalkane solvents may also be potentiated by MEK. ... [Pg.477]

Because the aldol reaction is reversible, it is possible to adjust reaction conditions so that the two stereoisomeric aldol products equilibrate. This can be done in the case of lithium enolates by keeping the reaction mixture at room temperature until the product composition reaches equilibrium. This has been done, for example, for the product from the reaction of the enolate of ethyl /-butyl ketone and benzaldehyde. [Pg.66]

Z-Boron enolates can also be obtained from silyl enol ethers. This method is necessary for ketones such as ethyl /-butyl ketone, which gives /i-boron enolates by other methods. The Z-stereoisomer is formed from either the Z- or /r-silyl enol ether.20... [Pg.72]
