Ethanol dehydrogenase

Several microbial alcohol oxidoreductases can catalyze the stereoselective oxidation of GLD. Quinohaemoprotein ethanol dehydrogenase of Acetobacter pasteurianus is able to oxidize stereospecifically (S)-GLD to (l )-glycidic acid in racemic GLD [41,42 ]. When washed cells of A. pasteurianus were incubated with 4.8 mg ml" of racemic GLD, (1 )-GLD was obtained, with an optical purity of 99.5% e. e. and 64% conversion. 

NAD+ is a coenzyme for both pyruvate dehydrogenase and ethanol dehydrogenase. Using the values of E0 from Table 6-8 calculate the Gibbs energy change and the equilibrium constant for the reaction.

Immobilised enzymes were used in connection with multi-site detection for the spectrophotometric determination of ethanol and glycerol in wines [89]. The analytical channels comprised a mini-column filled with a different enzyme (ethanol dehydrogenase or glycerol dehydrogenase immobilised onto beads) and shared a single relocating detector. The cost of analysis was lower than that of using commercial kits. 

Section II B 2 Okuda and Takigawa (191) have provided further evidence that 5) -cholestane-3a,7a,12a,26-tetrol dehydrogenase is identical with liver ethanol dehydrogenase.
