Ethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid

Corrosion Inhibition by 1-Hydroxy-Ethane-1,1-Diphosphonic Acid (HEDP)... [Pg.481]

The adsorption of 1-hydroxy-ethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid (HEDP) with Ca " or cation additives on a spontaneously oxidized mild steel surface was examined in order to study the effect of these cations on the adsorption mechanism in neutral aqueous solutions. Quantitative XPS investigations were performed to study the effect of increasing the calcium and zinc concentrations on the adsorption of HEDP. [Pg.524]

Aminotrimethanephosphonic acid is formed from formamide, acetamide, urea, or alkanenitriles with phosphorous acid [296]. By reaction of monoalkyl phosphite or P406 with glacial acetic acid or the corresponding anhydride ethane-1 -hydroxy-1,1-diphosphonic acid is formed after hydrolysis [297,298]. P406 can be obtained from P4 and 02 in a high yield of 85-90% [299]. [Pg.568]

Ethane-1-hydroxy-1,1-diphosphonic acid is a substance widely used as a sequestering agent. Hence there are many methods developed for its large-scale preparation [106,107]. The substance was known as early as 1865 [79]. [Pg.576]

One process to form ethane-1-hydroxy-1,1-diphosphonic acid is the treatment of acetic acid with phosphorus trioxide [124] see Eq. (67) ... [Pg.576]

There are many methods for the preparation of ethane-1-hydroxy-1,1-diphosphonic acid including reacting phosphorus trichloride and acetic acid in the presence of tributylamine [106], phosphorus with acetic acid and oxygen [108], acetic anhydride with phosphorous acid and acetyl chloride [80,84-86,109,110], and acetic anhydride with phosphoric acid and acetic acid [111]. By another method ketene and phosphorous acid can be used [112], as shown in Eq. (68) ... [Pg.576]

The diacetylated ethane-1-hydrox-1,1-diphosphonic acid is prepared by dissolving the diphosphonic acid in acetic acid and adding acetic anhydride [114]. The sodium salt can be directly converted to the free acid form by passing it through an hydrogen cation exchanger. The bicyclic dimer is prepared by basic hydrolysis of diacetylated cyclic dimer, as shown in Eq. (70) ... [Pg.576]

With stirring and under reflux, 8.6 g (0.053 mole) of imidazol-4-yl acetic acid hydrochloride, 7.1 ml of 85% phosphoric acid and 25 ml of chlorobenzene are heated to 100°C. Then 13.9 ml of phosphorus trichloride are added dropwise at 100°C, whereupon evolution of gas occurs. Over the course of 30 min a dense mass precipitates from the reaction mixture. The batch is heated for 3 hours to 100°C and the supernatant chlorobenzene is removed by decantation. With stirring and under reflux, the residual viscous mass is heated to the boil for 3 hours with 40 ml of 9 N hydrochloric acid. The batch is filtered hot with the addition of carbon and the filtrate is diluted with acetone, whereupon the crude 2-(imidazol-4-yl)-l-hydroxy-ethane-l,l-diphosphonic acid precipitates. This product is recrystallised from water. Melting point 238-240°C (dec.). [Pg.3560]

The crystal structures of glycylaminomethylphosphonic acid, and of methane-, ethane-, and propane-diphosphonic acids, have been determined. The unit cell of the last acid contains two molecules, with different conformations. The molecular structures of the constrained phosphite (161), the phosphate (162), and the thio-phosphate (163) have been compared. The nitrogen in the last compound is very nearly trigonal planar, and the large P—N distance (313 pm) shows that there is little P - - N interaction. The phosphazene (164) adopts a novel conformation, ... [Pg.264]
