ETHANE TRICHLORIDE (79-00-5) Although not easily ignited, this material forms a flammable mixture with air above 109°F/42°C. Incompatible with strong oxidizers, strong caustics and chemically active metals (especially powders), potassium, sodium amide may cause fire and explosions. Reacts with aqueous sodium hydroxide, forming 1,1-dichloro-ethylene. Reacts with aqueous lime, forming a mixture of 1,1- and 1,2-dichloroethylene. Corrosive to aluminum, iron, and zinc, especially at elevated temperatures. Attacks some plastics, rubber, and coatings. [Pg.510]
