While with-in the mobile x-ray system, the waste in the sampler, is contained within a replaceable (and disposable) polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sleeve with a wall thickness of approximately 0.2-inches and a sealed bottom. It was anticipated that the PVC tube or sleeve would, with use, become highly contaminated with waste residues which drip of fall-off the sampler. The sleeve is coated with a conductive coating to prevent static electricity buildup . There are no sources of ignition in this sealed spare. The sampler (and waste) is coupling which includes a positive pressure gasket. This barrier is further isolated by a second barrier consisting of an epoxy coated aluminum sleeve also sealed-off from the main x-ray cabinet and PVC sleeve. Sihcones (qv) have an advantage over organic resias ia their superior thermal stabiUty and low dielectric constants. Polyurethanes, when cured, are tough and possess outstanding abrasion and thermal shock resistance. They also have favorable electrical properties and good adhesion to most surfaces. For many electronic and electrical appHcations, electrically conductive resias are required. Most polymeric resias exhibit high levels of electrical resistivity. Conductivity can be improved, however, by the judicious use of fillers eg, in epoxy, silver (in either flake or powdered form) is used as a filler. Sometimes other fillers such as copper are also used, but result in reduced efficiency. The popularity of silver is due to the absence of the oxide layer formation, which imparts electrical insulating characteristics. Consequently, metallic fibers such as aluminum are rarely considered for this appHcation. [Pg.531]

Sufficient titanate leads to a fully hardened polymer. Using only enough titanate to react with free hydroxyls, the resin may subsequently be cured at lower cost with conventional cross-linking agents. The titanated epoxy resin has a low power factor, which is important in electrical appHcations, eg, potting components and insulation (see Embedding). Titanates improve adhesion of metals to epoxies. [Pg.162]

CeU terminal connections are usuaUy brought out by two-threaded terminals that protmde through the ceU jar cover. They are usuaUy steel, brass, or copper with a hoUow coastmctioa.
