Regulatory Considerations. Commercial use of a Grignard reagent in the United States requires that it appear on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) list of Chemical Substances in Commerce. A corresponding registration exists for the European community and for Japan. 

As defined under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), any solid or combination of solid wastes that, because of its physical, chemical, or infectious characteristics, may pose a hazard when improperly disposed of. Possesses at least one of four characteristics (ignitability, corrosivity, reactivity, or toxicity), or appears on special Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) lists. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) lists the regulations regarding limits for alpha emitters. Radium-226, Ra, and gross alpha are analyzed by this method [6]. 

The Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 put a heavy burden on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and state agencies to permit and oversee compliance with the Clean Air Act (CAA). Table 24-1 lists the major deadlines affecting industry under the 1990 amendments. Some of the deadlines have already passed without any action" being promulgated and finalized. The other deadlines may also slip to a later date. Almost no statutorv "hammers" have been included in CAAA90.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) identifies the most serious hazardous waste sites in the nation. These sites make up the National Priorities List (NPL) and are the sites targeted for long-term federal cleanup activities. Methyl parathion has been found in at least 16 of the 1,585 current or former NPL sites. However, the total number of NPL sites evaluated for this substance is not known. As more sites are evaluated, the sites at which methyl parathion is found may increase. This information is important because exposure to this substance may harm you and because these sites may be sources of exposure. 

The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) [42 U.S.C. 9601 et seq.], as amended by the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) [Pub. L. 99 99], requires that the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) develop jointly with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in order of priority, a list of hazardous substances most commonly found at facilities on the CERCLA National Priorities List (NPL) prepare toxicological profiles for each substance included on the priority list of hazardous substances and assure the initiation of a research program to fill identified data needs associated with the substances. 

Despite the difficulties of evaluating the true extent of contamination, the latest estimations in Europe in 2006 set a number of 3.5 million potentially contaminated sites [23]. Of these, approximately 0.5 million were expected to require urgent treatment. The National Priorities List of the 2012 US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) identified 1,305 superfund sites, which are defined as abandoned hazardous waste sites [24]. 

This Statement was prepared to give you information about acrylonitrile and to emphasize the human health effects that may result from exposure to it. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has identified 1,177 sites on its National Priorities List (NPL). Acrylonitrile has been found at 3 of these sites. However, we do not know how many of the 1,177 NPL sites have been evaluated for acrylonitrile. As EPA evaluates more sites, the number of sites at which acrylonitrile is found may change. The information is important for you to know because acrylonitrile may cause harmful health effects and because these sites are potential or actual sources of human exposure to acrylonitrile. 

Among all chlorophenols, 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (TCP) and pentachlorophenol (PCP) are listed as priority pollutants by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (IRIS electronic database) and the EU [256]. In particular, PCP has been classified as a B2 probable carcinogen for humans from animal toxicity studies and human clinical data.
