There are two major uses of /50-butane. One is dehydrogenation to isobutylene followed by conversion of the isobutylene to the gasoline additive methyl /-butyl ether (MTBE). However, current environmental issues may ban this gasoline additive. [Pg.102]

These pathways-level models have two key advantages. First, they generally provide a better basis for extrapolation than global models because of their chemical richness. Second, and perhaps trivially obvious, they are fashioned to answer new questions concerning product quality and properties. For example, as environmental issues dictate the allowable aromatics content of gasoline, it is important to have models which can specify, e.g., the benzene content. [Pg.291]

The chemistry of diesel fuel processing has evolved significantly around the central issue of how to produce ultra-low sulfur diesel fuels and low-aromatic diesel fuels in a more efficient and environmentally friendly fashion. New design approaches are necessary for making affordable ultra-clean diesel and gasoline. [Pg.361]

Predicting catalyst developments is outside the scope of this paper, but expect many of those improvements to be related to environmental issues. Commercialization of catalysts like Davison s RFG-1 will be required to meet the challenges of the probable worldwide reformulation of gasoline. SO reducing additives are already available, but there is as yet no commercially available FCC additive to reduce NO emissions. Because of greenhouse effect concerns, there may even be the need for a catalyst to achieve high FCC conversions at ultra-low coke makes. [Pg.47]
