Entity - meaning

Concept 2. Business entity means that accounts are kept for the company qmte independently of the people who may own the company. For example, if an individual puts an additional 10,000 into a one-person business, the accounts show that the business is 10,000 richer. They do not show that the individual s personal wealth has been depleted by 10,000. [Pg.838]

Aromatic biguanides such as proguanil (181) have been found useful as antimalarial agents. Investigation of the metabolism of this class of drugs revealed that the active compound was in fact the triazine produced by oxidative cyclization onto the terminal alkyl group. The very rapid excretion of the active entity means that it cannot be used as such in therapy. Consequently, treatment usually consists in administration of either the metabolic precursor or, alternately, the triazine as some very insoluble salt to provide slow but continual release of drug. [Pg.280]

Covered ENTITY— The term covered entity means an employer, employment agency, labor organization, or joint labor-management committee. [Pg.303]

PUBLIC ENTITY—The tenn pubUc entity means—... [Pg.311]

PRIVATE ENTITY— The term private entity means any entity other than a public entity (as defined in section 201(1)). [Pg.329]

Controlling entity means an employer that is a prime contractor, general contractor, construction manager or any other legal entity which has the overall responsibility for the construction of the project-its planning, quality and completion. [Pg.1230]

This chapter centers on the mathematical aspects of the non-adiabatic coupling terms as single entities or when grouped in matrices, but were it not for the available ab initio calculation, it would have been almost impossible to proceed thus far in this study. Here, the ab initio results play the same crucial role that experimental results would play in general, and therefore the author feels that it is now appropriate for him to express his appreciation to the groups and individuals who developed the numerical means that led to the necessary numerical outcomes. [Pg.714]

Ab-initio calculations are particularly usefiil for the prediction of chemical shifts of unusual species". In this context unusual species" means chemical entities that are not frequently found in the available large databases of chemical shifts, e.g., charged intermediates of reactions, radicals, and structures containing elements other than H, C, O, N, S, P, halogens, and a few common metals. [Pg.520]

Cellulose triacetate is obtained by the esterification of cellulose (qv) with acetic anhydride (see Cellulose esters). Commercial triacetate is not quite the precise chemical entity depicted as (1) because acetylation does not quite reach the maximum 3.0 acetyl groups per glucose unit. Secondary cellulose acetate is obtained by hydrolysis of the triacetate to an average degree of substitution (DS) of 2.4 acetyl groups per glucose unit. There is no satisfactory commercial means to acetylate direcdy to the 2.4 acetyl level and obtain a secondary acetate that has the desired solubiUty needed for fiber preparation. [Pg.290]

There should be specific, saturable binding to the receptor, accompanied by pharmacological characteristics appropriate to the functional effects, demonstrable using a radioactive, eg, tritium or iodine-125, ligand to label the receptor. Radioligand binding assays (1,6) have become a significant means by which to identify and characterize receptors and enzymes (see Immunoassays Radioactive tracers). Isolation of the receptor or expression of the receptor in another cell, eg, an oocyte can be used to confirm the existence of a discrete entity. [Pg.517]

Mutual Exclusion (MUTEX). The idea of multiple entities all working on the same piece of work raises this issue of coordination and communication among the individual processes. A weU-known example from banking is instmctive. Consider two bank tellers simultaneously performing withdrawals from the same bank account. Both read the account balance and determine that the balance is 100, and so a withdrawal of 100 is allowed. Both then withdraw 100 from the account. Clearly this process needs some means by which the actions of the independent processes can be synchronized and coordinated. [Pg.94]

The term system is used in this book to mean an aggregate of components the term component refers to an entity that is considered as a unit and not decomposed for analysis. [Pg.35]

A means of recovering an entity by giving it a unique identity. [Pg.560]

In addition to specific deductions and credits, the Tax Code permits state and local governments to issue bonds on which the interest is exempt from federal income tax. This provision means that states and local governments can borrow at interest rates below those paid by private corporations. Municipally owned electricity providers often can issue tax-exempt debt the lower interest rate may have the effect of increasing the provision of electricity by these entities. [Pg.1121]

To be unambiguous when using moles, we must be specific about which entities (that is, which atoms, molecules, formula units, or ions) we mean. For example, hydrogen occurs naturally as a gas, with each molecule built from two atoms, which is why it is denoted H2. We write 1 mol H if we mean hydrogen atoms or 1 mol H2 if we mean hydrogen molecules. Note that 1 mol H2 corresponds to 2 mol H. [Pg.63]

The positive charge should reside on a complex entity, and there is no ready means for assessing the products of the neutralization process. Although we know that neutralization must yield 3.8 intermediates/100 e.v., there is no chemical evidence for their contribution to the product distribution. This cannot be interpreted by neutralization yielding predominantly hydrogen atoms, ethyl radicals, or methyl radicals. One can quantitatively account for these intermediates on the basis of the distribution of primary species and second- and third-order ion-molecule reactions (36). [Pg.267]

Before we consider the roles that are typically associated with the steering committee or implementation team, we would like to draw a distinction between these two terms for future reference. Although steering committee and implementation team are usually applied to the same entity, we will break this tradition in this book for the purposes of clarity the steering committee will from here on be taken to mean the implementation team plus... [Pg.214]
