English language articles

A search of two major data bases (MEDLINE, International Pharmaceutical Abstracts) was conducted to identify articles published between January 1988 and December 1995. The beginning date of January 1988 was selected because the original ACCP prospectus was inclusive through December 1987. Both MeSH and free text search terms were used to identify English language articles assessing the value of clinical pharmacy services. Search terms were clinical pharmacy services, pharmacy... 

All of the science disciplines contribute to the body of information and knowledge that is used by pharmaceutical researchers, educators, and practitioners. Questions and information needs that arise within a pharmaceutical specialty will not necessarily be met by the literature associated with that specialty [13]. Researchers and academics particularly need access to a broad range of science literature. English is widely used however, the biomedical literature is and has been truly international [13]. About 86% of the current MEDLINE database is English language even though only 52% of current cited articles were published in the United States [20].

It was noted in the previous section that studies with positive findings are more likely to be published in English language journals. The first criterion in the bulleted list just presented therefore gives articles with positive findings a better chance of capture in the computer search process and, therefore, inclusion in the systematic review or meta-analysis. The fact that studies with positive results are more likely to be published in more than one journal (noted in the previous section) also gives these articles a better chance of capture in the computer search process and inclusion in the systematic review or meta-analysis. 

This is intended as an expository article rather than an extended review, and little effort has been made to obtain historical balance through the r erences. Most of the work cited occurs in the English language literature, whereas a balanced review of the development of the field would emphasize the important contributions of French, other European, and Soviet workers. 

EMBASE is the electronic form of Excerpta Medica, from the publisher Elsevier Science. It contains indexed articles from more than 4000 biomedical journals from 119 countries, although again the English language dominates. EMBASE is stronger on European and Far Eastern literature than MEDLINE. Books were also included from 1975 to 1980. The database goes back to 1974 and is updated weekly. 

The purpose of this article is the presentation of a summary of the contributions that have been made to our understanding of the gas phase photochemistry of the simple oxides and sulfides of carbon. An effort has been made to cover the published accounts of research in the English language literature through December 1974. 

In the English language literature there are a number of publications over hollow stirrers, see the review article [241]. [133, 240] report efforts to improve their mode of action by perforating the pipe arms in the flow direction. 

One of the best articles written on the Knoevenagel reaction in the English language is in the Journal of Organic Chemistry, Volume 15, pages 8 to 14. Another reference is Organic Reactions, Volume 15. 

It is the collaborative (and indeed co-operative) natnre of wikis that has enabled the rapid growth of Wikipedia by comparison with the first Oxford English Dictionary which took 78 years before the first product was published in 1928 (http //www.oed.com/), Wikipedia is 6 years old and has more than 1.7 million articles in its English language edition, growing by nearly 2,000 a day. In 2006, a report in Nature (http //www.nature.com) compared Encyclopedia Britannica and Wikipedia science articles and suggested that the former are usually only marginally more accurate than the latter. 

EMBASE 1974-. Amsterdam Elsevier. Weekly. The online version of Excerpta Medica, providing worldwide coverage in the area of human medicine. All articles are added to the database within 15 days after receipt of the original journal, and English language abstracts are provided for 80% of all citations. Kekule read a transcript of this discussion that appeared in the Chemical News.
