Engineering design with adhesives

Acrylic adhesives can be formulated to have low, controllable viscosity, which makes possible rapid, precise dispensing to parts to be bonded. In addition, rapid curing or setting, without long periods in ovens, makes these adhesives particularly useM for the assembly of various components in automatic or semi-automatic production lines (see Engineering design with adhesives). [Pg.15]

In many industrial situations, the use of adhesives has advantages over older methods of joining (see Engineering design with adhesives. Industrial applications of adhesives), but there is sometimes a reluctance to use them because of supposed difficulties... [Pg.106]

A further discussion of the topic can be found in Engineering design with adhesives and other relevant considerations in Durability creep rupture and Durability fatigue. [Pg.270]

Note This document was developed using codes that were in farce in 2010. After the document was completed, and during the peer review process, ACI 318-11 was issued. This revision had changes in both the adhesion of adhesive anchors and the seismic provisions. The committee elected not to try to implement these changes into this document. Thus, engineers involved with adhesive anchors or the seismic design of anchors should review ACI 318-11 to ensure that they are complying with that code. [Pg.4]

This enormous hardness is exploited in grinding wheels which are made from small particles of a high-performance engineering ceramic (Table 15.3) bonded with an adhesive or a cement. In design with ceramics it is never necessary to consider plastic collapse of the component fracture always intervenes first. The reasons for this are as follows. [Pg.180]

Adhesive Disadvantages. There are some limitations in using adhesives to form assemblies. The major limitation is that the adhesive joint is formed by means of surface attachment and is, therefore, sensitive to the substrate surface condition. Another limitation of adhesive bonding is the lack of a nondestructive quality control procedure. Finally, adhesive joining is still somewhat limited because most designers of assemblies are simply not familiar with the engineering characteristics of adhesives. [Pg.33]

Today s new engineered composites provide designers with a wealth of options and challenges. Many structural adhesives are currently available, and the correct adhesive choice is crucial. Factors to consider include VOC content, surface preparation, working and fixture times, requirements of the application, and dynamic fatigue resistance. [Pg.21]

As for bonded joints, adhesively bonded joints are also more susceptible to environmental condition and fatigue loading in comparison to their metallic counterparts, also governed by the lay-up of the FRPC adherends. The aforementioned issnes, coupled with the paucity of relevant engineering data, make the design of adhesively bonded joints of pipes more critical. [Pg.683]
