There is another sort of polymerization process used to produce viscous polypropylene. The reactor is a refrigerated kettle evaporator where the reaction takes place in the liquid phase. The catalyst was iso-propyl-chloride. The polypropylene product was used by Texaco in the 1960s as an engine top cylinder lubricant, added to gasoline. [Pg.445]

The Flat-bed pressure filter (Hydromation Engineering Co. Ltd.) (19) is based on the above principle. The pressure compartment consists of two halves, top and bottom. The bottom half is stationary while the top half can be raised to allow the belt and the cake to pass out of the compartment, and can be lowered onto the belt during the filtration and dewatering stage. The filter can be considered as a horizontal filter press with an indexing cloth in comparison with a conventional filter press, however, this filter allows only the lower face of the chamber to be used for filtration. [Pg.407]

The cetane engine is a variable compression single cylinder engine very much like the octane engine. The engine is mn at 900 rpm and injection is timed to start at 13° before top dead center (BTDC). The compression ratio is adjusted so that the test fuel starts to ignite at exacdy top dead center (TDC), for an ignition delay of 13° or 2.4 ms. Reference fuels are chosen which bracket the sample and the cetane number of the sample is estimated by interpolation between the two reference fuels. [Pg.192]

Minimum work for an ideal separation at first glance appears unrelated to the slender vertical vessel having a condenser at the top and a reboder at the bottom. The connection becomes evident when one calculates the work embedded in the heat flow that enters the reboder and leaves at the condenser. An ideal engine can extract work from this heat. [Pg.84]

The relationships among the various annual costs given by Eqs. (9-1) through (9-9) are illustrated diagrammaticaUy in Fig. 9-1. The top half of the diagram shows the tools of the accountant the bottom half, those of the engineer. The net annual cash flow Acp, which excludes any provision for balance-sheet depreciation Abd, is used in two of the more modern methods of profitability assessment the net-present-value (NPV) method and the discounted-cash-flow-rate-of-return (DCFRR) method. In both methods, depreciation is inherently taken care of by calculations which include capital recoveiy. [Pg.804]

Gas Holders Gas is sometimes stored in expandable gas holders of either the hquid-seal or dry-seal type. The hquid-seal holder is a familiar sight. It has a cylindrical container, closed at the top, and varies its volume by moving it up and down in an annular water-filled seal tank. The seal tank may be staged in several lifts (as many as five). Seal tanks have been built in sizes up to 280,000 m (10 X lO fE). The dry-seal holder has a rigid top attached to the sidewalls by a flexible fabric diaphragm which permits it to move up and down. It does not involve the weight and foundation costs or the hquid-seal holder. Additional information on gas holders can be found in Gas Engineers Handbook, Industrial Press, New York, 1966. [Pg.1019]
