Enamel cap

Types of internal enamel for food containers include oleoresins, vinyl, acryflc, phenoHc, and epoxy—phenoHc. Historically can lacquers were based on oleoresinous products. PhenoHc resins have limited flexibiHty and high bake requirements, but are used on three-piece cans where flexibiHty is not required. Vinyl coatings are based on copolymers of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate dissolved in ketonic solvents. These can be blended with alkyd, epoxy, and phenoHc resins to enhance performance. FlexibiHty allows them to be used for caps and closures as weU as drawn cans. Their principal disadvantage is high sensitivity to heat and retorting processes this restricts their appHcation to cans which are hot filled, and to beer and beverage products. [Pg.450]

The second analytical method uses a combustion system (O Neil et al. 1994) in place of reaction with BrF,. This method was used for the crocodiles because they were represented by very thin caps of enamel. The enamel was powdered and sieved (20 mg), pretreated in NaOCl to oxidize organic material and then precipitated as silver phosphate. Approximately 10-20 mg of silver phosphate were mixed with powdered graphite in quartz tubes, evacuated and sealed. Combustion at 1,200°C was followed by rapid cooling in water which prevents isotopic fractionation between the CO2 produced and the residual solid in the tube. Analyses of separate aliquots from the same sample typically showed precisions of 0.1%o to 0.4%o with 2 to 4 repetitive analyses even though yields are on the order of 25%. [Pg.127]

We also have been able to prepare equally strong bioceramic materials of several pure calcium phosphates, which are resorbed much faster into the body as they are converted chemically to living bone by a process that we shall discuss (1-3). We have also synthesized an extremely strong (20,000-lb/in. 2 flexural strength) nonporous dental enamel material which is an excellent material for dental caps, crowns, and dentures (Fig. 3) (4). [Pg.319]

Use Alkyd resins are used as vehicles in exterior house paints, marine paints, and baking enamels. Molded alkyd resins are used for electrical components, distributor caps, encapsulation, and a variety of similar applications. [Pg.38]

Vibration also leads to friction, causing abrasion and possible text damage. Certain surfaces (plastic, enamels, etc.) or decorated/printed items must avoid contact with abrasive materials (wood, fibreboard, paper and board, etc.) and be overwrapped in a less damaging material, e.g. PE/PP film, bags or an air cap. [Pg.398]
