Emissions historical perspective

The overall goals of this interdisciplinary conference were to summarize scientific and policy lessons learned from the attempt to mitigate acid deposition, and to discuss the future of transboundary pollutants and market-based emission control systems. Anthony Janetos, Vice President of the Heinz Center for Science, Economics and the Environment gave the keynote address providing the conferees with an historical perspective on lessons learned from the acid deposition research experience. In the evening address, Paul Portney, the former President and Senior Fellow of Resources for the Future discussed economical benefits and costs of air pollution... [Pg.340]

It is appropriate at this special session in honour of Professor Dr. Fernando Pinto-Coelho to take an historical perspective of the main developments of interstellar spectroscopy at large and then describe to which specific areas of knowledge interstellar molecules have contributed. I will then discuss briefly several examples of recent research which are thought to be typical of star forming regions associated with maser emission. I am well aware of the very limited and biased selection I have chosen in view of the fantastic data available. [Pg.492]

Treatment of ICPAES from different perspectives and to varying degrees of comprehensiveness appears in a number of chapters in volumes not solely dedicated to ICP-AES, but treating spectrometry and analysis in general. An early excellent chapter on ICP-AES is by Tschopel (1979) on plasma excitation in spectrochemical analysis, in Wilson and Wilson s Comprehensive Analytical Chemistry. A very brief historical introduction to ICP-AES, basic principles and considerations of absorption and emission lines, and applications to food analysis is in a book on modern food analysis (Ihnat (1984), and Van Loon (1985), in his practical analyst-oriented book on selected methods of trace analysis biological and environmental samples includes a chapter (pp. 19-52) on techniques and instrumentation including ICPAES. Moore (1989) (Introduction to Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry) provides... [Pg.1575]
