However, over the last 60 years a new type of chemistry has emerged. Although the first examples, tertiary arsine complexes, were initially prepared as an extension of classical rhodium(III) chemistry, the newer complexes containing tt-bonding ligands have been a consequence of the intense interest in the catalytic properties of rhodium(I) complexes. Examples of these ligands also include tertiary phosphines and stibines, although it is debatable to what extent they act as r-acids when coordinated to rhodium(III).

In the event of a release of arsine, the area should be evacuated immediately. Regard anyone exposed to arsine as having inhaled a potentially toxic dose. Rescue of an affected individual requires appropriate respiratory protection. Remove exposed individnals to an uncontaminated area and seek immediate emergency medical help. Keep victim warm, quiet, and at rest provide assisted respiration if breathing has stopped. 

To respond to a release, use appropriate protective equipment and clothing. Positive pressnre air-snpplied respiratory protection is required. Close cylinder valve and ventilate area. Remove cylinder to a fume hood or remote area if it cannot be shut off. Emergency response and rescue procedures should be in place before beginning work with arsine. Local rescne assistance may be needed and should be prearranged. Excess arsine shonld be returned to the manufacturer, according to your institution s waste disposal guidelines. Diarsine trioxide that emerges as a by-product in the oxidation of arsine-containing sulfide ores is the most important raw material in the manufacture of various arsinic compounds. 

Appropriate PPE must be worn by members of emergency services treating casualties with suspected arsine exposure. Inadequate decontamination may result in secondary cases from exposure to primary cases.
