Electronic windows

The UW detector uses Sharp low beta anticoincidence electronics and scalers (low beta I) with voltage sensitive preamplifiers (Sharp is a division of Beckman Instrument Co.). The electronic window selected by a pulse generator is 0.75-100 mv. input for the anticoincidence channel and 0.5-oo mv. for the guard channel. The discriminators were set up for use only in natural radiocarbon measurements. [Pg.186]

Irradiation Cells and Calorimeters. The cell used for gas phase irradiations with the Febetron was made of stainless steel. The gas volume was a cylinder 4.0 cm. in diameter and 3.0 cm. deep behind a 0.0127 cm. stainless steel electron window. The electron window was welded around the edge of the cell. Welded to the rear of the cell was a small filling tube with a stainless steel Hoke vacuum valve. The whole assembly could be pumped and baked. In the microwave region tunable monochromatic radiation is produced by klystrons, each one being tunable over a relatively small frequency range, or a backward wave oscillator, tunable over a much larger range. Applications. The applications sought for these polymers include composites, stmctural plastics, electronics/circuit boards, aircraft/spacecraft coatings, seals, dental and medical prosthetics, and laser window adhesives. However, other than the early commercialization by Du Pont of the NR-150 B material, Httie development has occurred. Initially, DADC polymers were used in military aircraft for windows of fuel and deicer-fluid gauges and in glass-fiber laminates for wing reinforcements of B-17 bombers. Usage in impact-resistant, lightweight eyewear lenses has grown rapidly and is now the principal appHcation. Other uses include safety shields, filters for photographic and electronic equipment, transparent enclosures, equipment for office, laboratory, and hospital use, and for detection of nuclear radiation. [Pg.82]
