Electronic structure-searchable database

Gower Publishing (Brookfield, VT) has published a series of electronic handbooks providing approved ingredient information on materials used in cosmetics, personal care additives, food additives, and pharmaceuticals. Academic Press, through its Sci-Vision branch, has just (2000) launched an ambitious service of CD-ROM-based toxicity database products which are structure and substructure searchable. [Pg.108]

At this moment, the NIST Chemistry WebBook and the Beilstein are the two most useful search tools for molecular structure and property relations. There are many more types of properties available in the research literature of interest only to a smaller set of readers these will not be listed in the general-purpose handbooks, but are to be found in specialized books and journals. Our ability to search for such properties in the research literature on the Internet is increasing rapidly, and students should practice doing such searches. Many of the required properties have not been tabulated in a searchable electronic database for example, flammability, toxicity, ozone hole potential, and greenhouse gas potential. Information on health, safety, and the environment that is publicly available on websites is listed in the references. [Pg.68]

Titanium Alloys is the resialt of an ambitious effort to provide comprehensive property data in electronic form for not only databases but also print products such as the Materials Properties Handbooks series. In this endeavor. Titanium Alloys represents a book-first approach devoted to comprehensive, alloy-specific compilations of properties and processing information on engineering materials. This work has produced a substantial amovmt of titaniiim property data in electronic form, and follow-up efforts will determine which of the information is suitable for more structured and searchable electronic formats such as MatDB. [Pg.3]
