This reverse electrochemical control of the gel composition and volume is the basis for the singular electrochemical properties and the concomitant applications of conducting polymers. Reactions and properties based on polypyrrole films can be summarized as shown in Table 5 and below ... [Pg.340]

Electronically conducting polymers (ECPs) such as polyaniline (PANI), polypyrrole (PPy) and po 1 y(3.4-cthy 1 cncdi oxyth iophcnc) (PEDOT) have been applied in supercapacitors, due to their excellent electrochemical properties and lower cost than other ECPs. We demonstrated that multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) prepared by catalytic decomposition of acetylene in a solid solution are very effective conductivity additives in composite materials based on ECPs. In this paper, we show that a successful application of ECPs in supercapacitor technologies could be possible only in an asymmetric configuration, i.e. with electrodes of different nature. [Pg.64]

The pH of the carbon blacks is used to indicate their relative acidity or basicity, because the properties of these materials (i.e., adhesion and charge injection in carbon-polymer composites, electrochemical behavior) depend sensitively on the surface chemical and electronic sfructure [174, 222, 223]. This parameter is usually related to the amount of chemisorbed oxygen present on the surface, and to the very small amount of water soluble salts present in the material. The pH of carbon blacks is neutral to slightly alkaline for most grades, due to the low amount of chemisorbed species. To enhance certain properties, carbon blacks can be oxidised, with a subsequent increase in the amount of chemisorbed oxygen groups. These carbon blacks, therefore, show an acidic pH values, and relationships have been reported between the pH of carbon blacks and their content of volatile matter [223]. [Pg.186]

The polymer films or membranes used as ionic conductors are often made of composite polymeric materials made up of inert and ionic polymers. In such a material the inert polymer ensures the necessary elasticity and mechanical stability of the membranes, whereas the ionic component is responsible for the electrochemical properties. [Pg.257]

The main purpose of incorporating second phase to polymer matrix is to enhance properties of materials and use them for various applications. The hierarchical structures of polymer composites were also developed for better performances of electronic devices based on them. Here, the mechanical, electrical, electrochemical and electroluminescent, as well as the sensing properties of polymer composites were summarized. [Pg.127]

The electrochemical reactions involve charge movements between the electrode and the electrolyte. The electrochemical properties of polymer composites were embodied in electrochemical energy storage devices and DSSCs. [Pg.131]
