Modem civilization consumes vast quantities of organic compounds. Coal, petroleum, and natural gas are primary sources of carbon compounds for use in production of energy and as starting materials for the preparation of plastics, synthetic fibers, dyes, agricultural chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers, detergents, rubbers and other elastomers, paints and other surface coatings, medicines and drugs, perfumes and flavors, antioxidants and other preservatives, as well as asphalts, lubricants, and solvents that are derived from petroleum. 

Uses Antioxidant, metal deactivator for polymers, PP, HDPE, LDPE, some thermoplastic elastomers used as primary insulation in wire/cable applies., EPDM, peroxide- and radiation-crosslinked PE, nylon, polyacetal, polybutene, PU, styrenic copolymers, unsat. rubber, PVC, PVB, hot-melt and sol n. adhesives, powd. coatings, metal coatings, rubber/plas-tic gaskets, plastic fabricated parts in contact with catalytic metals, oils/ lubricants in contact with metals, food pkg. 

TPO materials are defined as compounds (mixtures) of various polyolefin polymers, semicrystalline thermoplastics, and amorphous elastomers. Most TPOs are composed of polypropylene and a copolymer of ethylene and propylene called ethylene—propylene rubber (EPR) [2]. A common rubber of this type is called ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM), which has a small amount of a third monomer, a diene (two carbon-carbon double bonds in it). The diene monomer leaves a small amount of unsaturation in the polymer chain that can be used for sulfur cross-linking. Like most TPEs, TPO products are composed of hard and soft segments. TPO compounds include fillers, reinforcements, lubricants, heat stabilizers, antioxidants, UV stabilizers, colorants, and processing aids. They are characterized by high impact strength, low density, and good chemical resistance they are used when durability and reliability are primary concerns. 

A combined use of primary and secondary antioxidants is state-of-the-art in research and practical applications for stabilizing elastomers against thermal-oxidative degradation - just as in thermoplastics. Mainly phenolic antioxidants or phenols with sulfur compounds are used.
