A major point that needs to be addressed in future work is the targeted delivery of organometallic anticancer drugs to cancer cells only. Also, additional features that generate cytotoxic activity other than disruption of DNA replication, such as the inclusion of molecular fragments that can interfere in cancer cell-specific cellular pathways, could be explored (11,103). 

The application of organometallic complexes of the other group 8 elements, iron and osmium, in anticancer drug design has until recently been almost exclusively focused on iron, with the ferrocenyl derivative of tamoxifen (ferrocifen) being the most prominent example (104). Organometallic osmium compounds have been little explored in this respect. 

Nonorganic and organometallic catalysts are also used to channel the reactions toward the chiral synthesis pathway. The drug called levodopa, (5)-3,4-dihydroxyalanine, is an effective drug against Parkinson s disease. It is stereoselectively manufactured using catalysts such as rhodium or ruthenium complexes. 

Combinatorial chemistry and solid-phase synthesis have evolved in the last decade to become one of the most important techniques to save time for drug discovery. To reach its full potential, the solid-phase synthesis has to incorporate many versatile organometallic reactions developed over recent several decades.
