Drugs, essential oils, food preservatives, vitamins, plasticizers, pesticides, steroids, hydrocarbons. 

Psychological disturbances With nervoms-ncss, disturbances of sleep, and similar symptoms, herbal drugs are often, and often justifiably, used. It is noteworthy that mostly aromatic constituents (essential oil) are present. 

It is also known that during the usual procedure for making teas, in the marc left after straining in the case of fennel ca. 70% of the essential oil present in the original drug is left behind, in the case of chamomile as much as 50-70% (with 60-70% of the chamazulene), and in the case of peppermint... 

This needs to be taken into aceount particularly with drugs containing essential oils, tannins, and bitter substanees [I, 2]. Herbal drugs with these active constituents should not be. stocked in the powdered state. 

A marine nutraceutical is defined as a marine-derived substance that can be used as a dietary supplement or a food ingredient that provides a medicinal or health benefit beyond basic nutrition [Barrow, C.. and F. Shahidi (2008). Marine Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods. CRC Press. 494 pp.] Cosmoceuticals are cosmetic products with drug-like benefits conferred by ingredients such as vitamins, phytochemicals, enzymes, antioxidants, and essential oils. 

Terpenes are polymers of the 5-carbon compound isoprene (Figure 1.12) and, as such, generally display properties similar to those of hydrocarbons. Terpenoids are substituted terpenes (i.e. contain additional chemical groups, such as an alcohol, phenols, aldehydes, ketones, etc.). Only a few such substances could be regarded as true drugs. Terpenes, such as limonene, menthol and camphor, form components of various essential oils with pseudo-pharmaceutical uses. A number of these molecules, however, exhibit anti-tumour activity, of which taxol is by far the most important.

Essential oils are also influenced by legislation that regulates specific products that may contain these oils, e,g,. the U.S. Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and the European Community Cosmetic Directive. Essential oils would not be anticipated to be of environmental concern, considering that they originate from botanical sources, Thus, natural processes exist to degrade essential oils and recycle their components effectively in the environment,... 

Phencyclidine (PCP) is a synthetic chemical that can be derived from an essential oil of the sassafras tree and is the best-known representative of the class of drugs collectively known as arylcyclohexylamines. As a chemical, PCP was first synthesized in 1926 and was briefly used in the 1950s as a dissociative anaesthetic. The chemicals needed to manufacture PCP are also readily available and inexpensive, and the production process requires little formal chemical knowledge or laboratory equipment. 

The bark of C. cassia is a tonic, stomachic and carminative. The bark is useful in inflammation, headache and piles. C. cassia bark and its essential oil are used in various medicinal preparations. The essential oil from the stem bark and cinnamaldehyde regulates the triggering of hepatic drug-metabolizing enzymes by the formation of a glutathione-conjugate (Choi et al., 2001). The bark exhibits promising anticancerous and antitumour activities. 

Anetholes from fennel, anise and camphor are among the several dietary factors that have the potential to be used to prevent and treat cancer (Aggarwal and Shishodia, 2006). Essential oil of fennel is included in some pharmacopoeias. It is used traditionally in drugs to treat chills and stomach problems.
