Drug delivery systems future prospectives

Intimately related to these factors is the design of the device, formulation, and the interface with the patient. Much of the discussion below will focus on the implications of excipients on formulation challenges for inhaled aerosol products. This chapter summarizes excipients for pulmonary formulations from several perspectives (i) excipient selection based on principles of delivery, (ii) physicochemical requirements for excipients, and (iii) specific challenges for formulations faced with aerosol drug delivery systems, including (a) biological aspects, (b) microbiological aspects, (c) analytical issues, and (d) future prospects. [Pg.226]

To estimate the future prospect of lipospheres as a drug delivery system for peptides and proteins, more investigations with a wider peptide and protein spectrum are desirable, as the available data are still restricted to only a few publications. Stability during preparation and long-term storage has not yet been dealt with in detail for peptide and protein drugs, but it is one of the prerequisites for successful protein pharmaceutics. [Pg.16]

The purpose of this overview chapter is to provide perspectives in the current status and future prospects of controlled release drug delivery. This is accomplished by examining various delivery systems from a mechanistic point of view, exploring applications of these systems, and discussing relevant biopharmaceutical parameters. A major section of this book is devoted to fundamental issues and applications of transdermal and transmucosal delivery systems (Chapter 6,8,17-23). Other developing systems of future potential... [Pg.3]

Transdermal Delivery Systems. Transdermal delivery of drugs over extended periods of time for systemic therapy has received significant attention. The importance and future prospects of this field are further reflected in the section on Transdermal and Transmucosal Delivery Systems (Chapters 17-23). Intact human skin, once thought to be an impermeable barrier, was realized as a potential portal of entry for systemic drug therapy only recently. [Pg.12]

In this chapter, recent studies on drug delivery and diagnostic systems using stimuli-responsive polymers are summarized from the viewpoint of interactions between the systems and the surface of the body, organs, tissues, and cells. Progress and prospect of this field are discussed, and the author s brief comments on future trends are given. [Pg.236]
