Dow Corning

Globally, there is a small number of basic fluorosihcone producers General Electric Co. and Dow Corning Corp. in the United States, ShinEtsu in Japan, and Wacker Chemie in Germany. Prices tend to be about 55—220/kg and higher depending on the physical form and the application. [Pg.400]

Foam Control. Whereas some siUcones are known to be foam promoters, Dow Corning FS-1265 Fluid is a Hquid fluorosiUcone with effective antifoam properties. Petroleum industry appHcation of fluids and dispersions in gas—oil separators on offshore drilling platforms has been successful. Their use peaked in the early 1980s, coinciding with constrained cmde oil capacity and production. Diesel fuels are an excellent solvent for dimethyl silicones and render them ineffective as an antifoam. A new antifoam which does not require the use of added siUca is formulated from a fluorosiUcone copolymer. It has shown promise to antifoam (8) diesel fuel (see Defoamers). [Pg.401]

Dow Corning, General Electric, and Shinetsu Chemical Company are the principal suppHers of these elastomers in the United States. It is estimated that the volume used in the United States is between 2700 and 3600 t/yr. The primary uses of these elastomers are in O-rings and shaft seals, as weU as wire and cable, and electrical coimectors. [Pg.234]

The bulk of acyloxysilanes is produced and used by the principal U.S. siUcone mbber producers, ie, Dow Corning and General Electric (see Silicon COMPOUNDS, silicones). [Pg.40]

These discoveries were followed by two key publications describing the work that marked the beginning of the commercial siUcone industry (18,19). Production increased rapidly with the need for siUcones in World War II. In 1943, the Dow Corning Corp. was formed in Midland, Michigan, as a joint venture between Corning Glass and Dow Chemical. In 1947 GE opened a plant in Waterford, New York, for manufacture of siUcones, and in 1949 Union Carbide opened a siUcone manufacturing plant in Tonawanda, New York. [Pg.43]
